Modder MaLDo discovers possible culprit for Crysis 3's low performance

DSOGaming writes: "Our dear readers, unfortunately our GTX 690 has not arrived yet, meaning that our Performance Analysis for Crysis 3 will get slightly delayed. As you may have heard, though, the first level of Crysis 3 seems to be behaving really strange, even on high-end PC systems. Ironically, it appears that the game suffers from some optimization issues, as modder MaLDo has discovered that the ropes physics are causing big performance hits for no apparent reason." (Crysis 3, PC)

Hire him already Crytek. He has made Crysis 2 a better game and I see him doing the same thing on 3.

Glitches I've found:

I shot some elevated crane thingy with my gun (huge and heavy) and it swung around like a pinata just from a few bullets.

Another one was near the damn area, when you walk up some stairs, looking beneath the hand rails and the steps you can see the water (which is like 100 feet away) but there are like, close up reflections of the hand rails and steps appearing as though they were reflecting on the water and as if they were right near the water.

Strange. I know I have played a few games where your shadows are made to look like they are hitting a surface (as they would in real life) but in actuality they are just floating in mid-air.

If that is the case, quite strange seeing as how the CryEngine is supposed to be one of the best when it comes to lighting and presumably shadows. I have no idea. Good spot though.

The game is a very nice way to show off the power of your system, however the gameplay does feel pretty bland. The campaign is crazy short too and multiplayer shooter wise there are games that do the actual shooting part better. All that being said, the game does look insanely good with maxed out settings at 1920x1080p. :P

I loved this game. It was gorgeous, fun, and just all around awesome.

My copy is supposed to arrive by Monday. I at least got the heads up about this issue. MaLDo is doing great things as usual for Crysis gamers, and quickly, too. I'm curious to see how much of a challenge this game is to run. I should have plenty of power, but it is a Crysis game...

You need a GTX 680 to max it.
AKS  +   603d ago
Does that include the top anti aliasing settings? That was the killer in that beta, although it seemed like it was pretty unpolished to me at that point in time. If a single card can max it, then I should be OK, as I have a SLI setup. It's usually the top AA settings ends up being the frame killer. It's only been within the last year or so that I had a system that could max out the original Crysis with max AA (in-game AA settings, I mean).

Hopefully Crysis 3 is less demanding than Metro. That is probably the most demanding game at max that I have own.

Is it just me or is Crysis 3 really that unoptimised?

Even on later levels, when outside with tons of grass the performance is relatively good (35fps on high, 1080p), considering my card is the now poor GTX 460 768MB, but then I walk inside a freaking corridor, staring at next to nothing like a wall and some ammo crates and suddenly I have 23 fps. Something's rotten in the state of Denmark.

edit: didnt see you said later levels

I have not had a single problem with the first or any level. Frame rate is at 60 steady with very high graphics settings.
