The PlayStation Effect – Three Pillars for Succesful Strategy

PlayStation 4 is built on Three Pillars. These pillars clearly show their intentions for next-gen and what Sony means when they talk innovation. Judging by Tretton's recent interviews there is a fourth pillar. They WILL cater to the hardcore gamer. Despite these interviewers questioning whether there will be enough market for a hardcore console and asking whether it would not be wiser to pursue ipad 99 cent gamers, Tretton keeps saying that those are "bite size" experiences and that he hopes to move those customers "up the foodchain" and get them on PS4. This is what I've been waiting to hear. Stop with the move crap, stop with the casual crap. They are taking a stand for the hardcore gamer as he made a clear distinction when saying that these $60 games were richer and more immersive than you could get anywhere else.

Of course Sony already has the games and we know they'll come for PS4, but the big question mark is this new marketing firm. Will they advertise other than for Uncharted and Gran Turismo? We'll see but hopefully they give Infamous, Killzone, Ratchet, Jak (if he comes back), LBP, GoW, Twisted Metal, and other franchises the notice they deserve. I think the upcoming campaigns for LoU and Beyond will be a good indication.
