These City Skylines Prove Just How Far Video Game Graphics Have Come

Kotaku - Wednesday's PlayStation 4 event showed us what next-gen graphics are capable of, so if you had any doubts that game environments could grow even better looking and more detailed, they're probably now gone.

Cities and city skylines in general were always a perfect way to show how beautiful a game is, so we collected some huge and gorgeous cities from upcoming titles—and a few from recent memory as well. (Culture)

I just love how its more colorful compared to the previous games
I bet they are saving naughty dog for e3.

Sonys message is clear.
ps4 is mostly about the core gamer.

Impressive, indeed. Question: will having gddr5 be a problem for Sony in terms of overheating and the like? Will it cause problems for devs in terms of cpu shortcomings?

No. It will only make things better.

GDDR5 is just RAM. It's separate from the CPU. RAM is usually fine when it comes to heat, so I don't think they need to worry about that. The CPU and GPU they're using are lower power and create little heat. For cooling Sony should be perfectly fine. The PS4 should actually create a lot less heat than the PS3. They really just need a few vents and a decent fan.

This GIF is super impressive (to me) - http://i.minus.com/i7dVY2F8...

The water flowing down on the right of the screen is amazing. You can actually notice wet spots near the landing pad.

Also look at the supplies (or whatever they are called) that are covered by the black sheet. It's right as soon as they are about to land. You can see that the wind from the aircraft actually causes the sheet to move. Small details but they make the world feel real.

Edit - You can also see the shadows created by the building on the water on the left.

Yeah the wind affecting the sheet is very likely OpenCL (GPGPU) at work. It's a very effective and fast way to get these kinds of effects without wasting CPU power. From wind-based physics, to particles, to realistic water, it will make a big difference next gen.

I dont want to make any console look bad.

But dont all the console use GPGPU and if so which one will be able to implement it better? People claim that the Wii Us weak processor is made up by the GPGPU i wonder if thats true.

"The PS4 should actually create a lot less heat than the PS3."

Oooo that means the PS4 will probably be quieter than the PS3 since it doesnt need such powerful fans then.

look at uncharted 3 or killzone 3 again and just imagine what they can make with ps4 that is at least 5 times more powerfull than that ps3.
