Five Things That Sony Did Right at PlayStation Meeting 2013

Paul from Denkiphile: "Sony slapped gamers around the world this last Wednesday with the intent of leaving an imprint of the next console generation that will be upon us. Sony officially announced the PlayStation 4 and, with it, a multitude of new hardware changes, interfaces, and games. Without a doubt, we are hyped up for the new console; however, five things hyped us up more than the rest." (Activision Blizzard Inc., Dev, Diablo III, Gaikai, Industry, PS4, Tag Invalid)

I wish they announced Starcraft instead of Diablo, that way we know PC RTS games could have an imprint on Next Gen consoles....... But I guess getting Blizzard back to consoles is a start.

Say what you want but Rock and Roll Racing was my Shiz on SNES.

I agree re: StarCraft and maybe with ps4s touchpad it would have been a winner. Diablo III, would rather have a new Torchlite.

The new way to download games seems cool to me too, I hope it works in day one.

I hope psvita integration works day 1. If they get this right they practically garner ~4mil hungry customers off the bat.

I also hope "Share" works with Youtube. Otherwise I have to create a Ustream account.

1. They are rectifying the issue of slow start up. Too much time in the past was wasted downloading updates, system loading, forced installs and so on.

2. They put the specs out there, unlike Nintendo who even to this day won't talk about actual specs.

3. They showed actual games and some running in real time.

4. They showed the new controller and hinted at some new possibilities.

5. They are serious about online gaming and social interaction and putting good use with their new acquisition of Gaikai.

Personally I thought it was a great presentation and really brought a new direction of announcing new products. Usually it's big shows like E3. Nintendo is also doing this with their Direct videos as well. All of this keeps the interest alive and well instead all compounded into one big event which is hard to take it all in at times and give a fair and non-biased point of view.

Sony has been doing events like this for far longer than Nintendo "Nintendo Direct", FYI. It's simply that Sony has, in the last few years, been focusing on key announcements outside of E3, and prior to the fiscal year close, to generate focused buzz, not buzz among dozens of other announcements.

I don't recall Sony having big events broadcasted online showing upcoming titles outside of TGS and E3 type shows. Yes we have seen some teasers and early release announcements but not one whole segment with a bunch of games like Direct did. I could be wrong.

And the best part of these 5 was "For the Devs, by the Devs"
PS4 is a console 100% made by game developers.
