5 Benefits of Gaming in the 21st Century

CraveOnline writes:

So, in case you haven't heard, the PlayStation 4 has been announced. It's "the future," according to Sony, and as gamers in the 21st century, it's just another thing we've got to look forward to in our rapidly evolving hobby of choice. (PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

My favorite benefit: Options.
alexcosborn  +   116d ago
Agreed. The more options available to the consumer, the better.

Agreed, agreed.

I like that option

And yet with all the options, some people still choose to only play CoD... I had someone complaining to me that gaming was too generic and nothing was unique or interesting. And all he played was CoD and Halo. I asked him if he knew about any Sony exclusives, or indie games... He didn't... at all. He even called The Last of Us a "typical Zombie Game"... "been done before".... Sad...

I play all video game genres. CoD AND Madden.

I just hope that our options continue to expand and not start to contract. Limiting used games, online passes, requiring unlock codes, etc. are going to piss me off something fierce. And I hope they figure out a way to register all of the PS3 disc games for streaming once PS3 games are streamable. I'm going to be incredibly pissed if they expect us to buy stuff YET AGAIN to be able to continue to play them on PS4.

This is the industry at it's inception. The games industry is still young comparitively. Look at how far other forms of art and entertainment have come. It will be exciting to look back and know that we were part of a revolution and evolution.

Agreed. There are tons and tons of opportunities for gaming at this point. Great time to be a gamer.

As a gamer that goes all the way back to the late 70's, I have to say my favorite benefit is the DLC. Never had that on the old arcade machines, but just think how much fun the original Mario would have been if the machine asked if you wanted to play some more levels after saving the Princess.

I can't wait to see some of the multiplayer experiences on PS4. With all the processing power the action could get CRAZY!

Just imagine the evolution of the PS4! What's it going to be like in 2 years? 5 Years? The PS3 has even evolved in the last year or so, and its 7 years old!

Like MAG on steroids.

Gaming today is light years from where it was even 10 years ago. And don't get me started on how far it's come since I was a kid. I remember playing games on C64 until my 5.25" floppies literally melted.

I started out with a C64 and a cassette drive.

I started out with a rock, some scissors, and paper.

Oh the things you could do with 64KB of RAM! California Games was the best.

Just food for thought, but wouldn't it be nice if the Vita would play PS4 games while out and about. I like how Sony will allow you to play around the house if your tv or gaming area has been compromised, lol. Just think about being on your lunch break 30 min. 1 hr. whatever, and being able to finish the last conference final game on 2K14. Get home and get ready to start your championship series. Another example, going through your off-season while out doing your daily deeds in between, then getting home and ready to start the new season with that out the way. Just think how many Vitas would fly of the shelves. Technology has come a long way, just think if we were on pace with the Navy lol.

My consoles are already becoming the center of my entertainment with Netflix and HuluPlus. I got rid of cable a long time ago...

The only thing stopping me is ESPN. As soon as I can stream College Football live, cable is gone.
