Graphical Evolution of Killzone series: From Killzone on PS2 to Killzone: Shadow Fall on PS4

Guerrilla Games is one such developer who worked almost on all consoles from Sony (ranging from PS2 to PS4) with popular and successful video-game franchise Killzone. So in this feature article we present to you the "The Graphical Evolution of Killzone Series".

Guerrilla Games is known for pushing the graphical boundary on every platform they have work on, and this trend will continue with Killzone: Shadow Fall on Playstation 4. The first official in-game screenshots of Killzone: Shadow Fall clearly show that the scale and graphical bar has been raised once again, and with some many months still to go before the launch, there's room for more improvements. (Killzone, Killzone 2, Killzone 3, Killzone: Shadow Fall, PS2, PS3, PS4)

I was definately impressed by the demo of Shadow Fall. The only thing that bugs me is that I didn'get that sense of desolation and desperation that I had watching the previous games' presentations, especially that of Killzone 2. But I will not judge the game based on one single video. I can't wait to see what Guerilla is going to show us next.

I agree with you. I hope this Killzone requires skill to play and that it rewards you with an overwhelming sense of achievement like when in Killzone 2,you beat Colonel Radec for the first time. While Killzone 3's campaign was a blast to play it was short lived when I finished the game on the day I bought it. I hope Killzone 4 is difficult and epic. On the topic of the article I think the evoloution of Killzone graphically is amazing.

Can't wait for KZ4! But if UK PS4 launch date is confirmed early 2014 the wait will kill me knowing the US are playing this months before us :-/

Potential is huge for this game, specially now that an extra 4GDDR5 was added.
here and there the game looked a bit rough still, but thats normal for a pre alpha.

Can't wait to see some online play, PS4 WITH this game on launch?
Holy shit people!

extra ? ps3 had NO GDDR5 memory
Adeeyal  +   605d ago
He means extra than what was rumoured to be included
DigitalSmoke  +   605d ago
I meant the developers all thought there was only 4 gig of ram, thats what they made the demo's on.
And then in the show Sony released that they actually got 8Gig GDDR 5 in the PS4..

So what we are seeing now in KZ4 is nothing.

Nothing? extra ram doesnt miraculously mean better visuals...

sigh.

dont get me wrong, its really awesome to have all that ram but dont get all hyped up that the game will suddenly get significantly better visually, the cpu and gpu still need to be up to snuff to make use of it.

More ram means more high res textures, which then equates to better visuals homie.

It's funny how everyone is all of a sudden talking about how much the game will improve graphically.

I thought the start of next gen was supposed to already be a graphical beast of a leap like everyone said it was going to be?

Why are we now talking about how it will get better later on?
PockyKing  +   605d ago
This is a horrible comparison lol. The pictures of Killzone 2 aren't even gameplay, just screens from the video that plays when you start up the game. The screens from Killzone 3 aren't any better either.

Visually, loved it.

Obviously real time, great.
(speculation over whether it was running on a PS4 or a PC though, iffy, any confirmation?)

The part they chose to demo, a smidge on the "every-day shooter side," to me anyway. I REALLY don't know what I expected to see that would blow me away, but the visuals are wonderful.

I guess there's some other illusive innovation that I'd like to see in a game (suspend and instant on are awesome features, as well as easy sharing on the console-side of things, I guess I will wait and see what else Sony brings in the coming months).

I think I'd be happy with a Fallout 4 announcement :)

the more that the sony haters lash out at killzone, the more it just makes me love the franchise

I'll give it until the MP release to put forth full judgement. I just hope like most do, that they go back to the Killzone 2 roots (in terms of shooting/Map design) and remember to keep it visually gritty like the last two games.
