Will Consoles Finally See RTS Games like Company Of Heroes?

RTS games on console have been out of the picture for quite some time now. Back in the early days of the current generation of consoles, we had a few, ranging from Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2, Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Halo Wars, End War and others. Since the days of those games however, they’ve been noticeably absent from console hardware. With the PS4 specs revealed, will more RTS developers be looking to consoles to ship games like Company Of Heroes 2 or Rome 2: Total War on?

I sure hope so! And more MMO/Rpg games please. With the ps4 being able to use cell phones (and MS also doing the same with smartglass) I can't see why we can't have hotkeys for commands/spells readily available on touch screens for mmo's.

On topic: For RTS games I suppose they can use the PS Move, or just plain let us connect a keyboard and mouse (the ps3 did it). Then there's also the touch pad on the dual shock 4. Many opportunities to bring rts games (I loved another Relic rts named Homeworld too...and Company of Heroes is their latest Rts franchise).

You'd need a mouse and keyboard. Until that doesnt happen you would get RTS for casuals.

Sorry but trying to play an RTS on a Controller or even a device like the Move is like trying to play a game like Uncharted on a Mouse and Keyboard. It just wont work.

If they are going to do it, they will need to introduce Mouse & Keyboard. The problem with that is not every console gamer will want to use a Mouse and KB combo.

Hence if they do try to get it to work on a Control pad or the Move it will always be a dumbed down exp.

I agree RTS works and suites a K/M much better but a controller can work too Have played Bought R.U.S.E when i had PS3 now i have it on with well lol too many rts games on PC i hope they get starcraft 2 Thats a amazing one my best RTS games.

Controllers suck for RTS games and so do touchpads (although better than the former). I'm sure the PS4 will have keyboard and mouse support again however.

That's how top players at Dust514 lead anyhow.

I'd be ashamed of using a controller for rts games. The keyboard and mouse combo is the only way of playing it properly.

Actually I was hoping that since relic belongs to sega now - they might push harder on Homeworld 3

Nicaragua1760d ago

that would be good but i dont think it will happen.

COH is a awsome game for all ya console owners if they get this gratz.RTS take lots of power to run especialy COH.the only problem is ya lose to much time on a controller over mouse and rts are challenging and ya have to be quick.360 tried this stratergy with LOTR battle for mid earth 2 didnt work out to well but times change.

Scrupuless1760d ago

As long as they include keyboard and mouse plug and play, then a resounding yes.

Capodastaro1760d ago

M&K support then yeah why not?

I don't know about total war though, its a real CPU killer and makes even 3ghz i7 work over time on all cores and threads
