Your PSN games may play on your PS4

PS4 may support existing digital purchases through cloud, 'We could do so if we choose to,' says Sony (Industry, PS4, Sony, Tech)

Hard to tell

OF course we gna be able to.
Eazy-Eman  +   546d ago
No we won't, the cell processor won't be in the ps4. And Ign pretty much confirmed that the ps4 won't support ps3 games. Not even digital copies, however they are planning on making an emulator just like the one that ps3's have with the ps2 downloadable titles.

Edit: Gaika is what I meant, sorry for the confusion.

Gaika?
Gamer1982  +   546d ago
You really need to read and look at what happened again. These games will be playable again through Gaikai. No emulator needed. All streamed through a cloud and the best bit? You can play them on your mobile phone!

Yeah, that's what I meant. Gaika.
Y_5150  +   546d ago
Oh yeah and also our PSN accounts will not carry on as well.
adorie  +   546d ago
I don't care about anything else, I just want my PSN account to carry over.

No traditional BC is sad, but that's what I have a PS2 for. My PS3 died not too long ago, so I'm going to have to have that reflowed and reballed, then it's going to be wrapped up and put into a time capsule.

In the year 3021, someone will find it and sell it for 1 million credits.
ColeMacGrath  +   546d ago
That would be me.. :P
FunAndGun  +   546d ago
I lol'd at 1 million credits. HA!

I totally agree

@ Y_5150

Why are you spreading false information in every PS4 article man. Sony never said anything about about PSN accounts not carrying over. And stop spreading that FUD that the PS4 is blocking used games. Yoshida, Jack Tretton already said that used games will work and won't be blocked. You and that Easy guy should just stop.

Edit: Nintendo and 360 fans are in full force today.

yes they are.. Angry at the world but it wont help them.. PS hit a home run yesterday & its going to be really tough to be toppled.. gaikai is awesome, the controller is awesome, the architecture is awesome, the support is awesome, etc.. 9/10 for a presentation that wasnt even E3 in my book
Y_5150  +   546d ago
You obviously do not know who I am. I love Sony and Nintendo when it comes to gaming.

That comment above was intended to be sarcastic and your statement: "Why are you spreading false information in every PS4 article man." What other articles have I said other than the "499 US DOLLARS" comment I posted which was supposed to be a joke, did I say negative or false things about the PS4?

I love the PS4 so far, it already has amazing games coming, the controller looks like the future and the system it's self is a beast!

I'm sorry I cause misunderstanding on my previous post but now I cleared it up for you.

There's no way that they won't carry PSN tags and trophies over. And absolutely no information to support that claim.
Y_5150  +   546d ago
I know I was being sarcastic...

Next time use a "/s" to indicate sarcasm.

Sarcasm is rarely differentiated from rampant trolling on the internet, as you miss all the nuances of tone and speech.

It better. Either that give us free PS4 version of games we already purchasd on PSN
ginsunuva  +   546d ago
Or just play it on a ps3. What does it matter if it's on a disc or digital, it's still a ps3 game.
guitarded77  +   546d ago
I sure hope so, but I would assume there would have to be some type of emulation to go from cell to x86. I really don't know the details though.

With The Witcher 3 coming to PS4, I hope they port 1 and 2 to the PS4 as well. With the x86 architecture, it should be pretty easy to get them from computer to console.

It better because Sony already let down a lot of people with no backward comparability without Gaikai. No one wants to rebuy games we already bought. Unless its free (highly doubtful) then it was a poor choice.
aquamala  +   546d ago
"We could do so if we choose to"

of course they "could", they could also give you free ps1/ps2 classics on psn if you put in a ps1/ps2 disk in ps3, but they choose not to.

Yoshida said, "We could do so if we choose to. We know who purchased what as a record. But we are working on service plans and we haven't decided."

I wonder why this is even being discussed. It sucks that everything you purchased on PS3 won't be able to carry over. I think this is just on of the downfalls of having a digital only copy.

Here's hoping that they do support the purchases from PS3 and offer them through their cloud service on ps4.
Eazy-Eman  +   546d ago
Keep your ps3, and problem solved.
Summons75  +   546d ago
you do realize that there are people out there who either can't afford to have both or need to trade in toward the new system to purchase it right? Yeah keeping the ps3 seems smart but most people (the people who sony aims their marketing toward) will never use it again once the new system is out. not having BC is really stupid because people still want to play old games from time to time. The only reason they leave it out is so they can justify you needing to re-buy all your games again via Gaikai.

by your logic nobody should buy down loadable games like FF1-9 on psn because they should have just kept their nes and ps1 and the people who weren't born in that generation and can't get a nes or ps1 are just SOL.
Clover904  +   546d ago
The ps4 works on completely different architecture from the ps3. Sony listened to developers and gave them what they wanted, despite making some fans upset about a non- backwards compatible system. In an effort to allow existing ps3 owners have access to already purchased games, Sony has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to purchase Gaikai so you can stream and play your old games on ps4. Sony had to distance themselves from the Cell processor to allow game developers give you the best gaming experiences they can dream up in the future.
saint_seya  +   545d ago
To reply to that logic, those who played the game or own the ps1 dont miss those ff and those who never bought em before, are just doing it for the first time, so they are not paying twice for the same game, and everyone had the chance to try the game. Its the same with gaikai... think before talk, it helps..
thebudgetgamer  +   546d ago
Even if they don't my PS3 will be moved to a secondary television, and the gaming will continue.
smashcrashbash  +   546d ago
I would prefer if you guys did.I will understand if you can't but if you can please do. I won't rage if you can't do it but will be miffed if you can but won't.Any way you have several months to decide.I am not even mad about the lack of BC. If you think about it it really isn't your obligation to give us BC if you decide to move on.I will just do what I usually do. Either keep the old system for a while or sell it all and move on. Besides it is good to see that you are still putting games on both PS3 and PS4
Dogswithguns  +   546d ago
I hope my PSN account, games, and my PS friends linked the same way..
Smashbro29  +   546d ago
Streaming is not a replacement for hardware and until the networks decide to stop being so greedy which will not happen: Keep those old systems.
Lifebanisher  +   546d ago
Sony can do it. what the president was saying is that the architecture of the ps3 is different from the ps4 so making it backward compatible is not possible, but if they were to use gaikai's server to stream the psn content ps1, ps2 and ps3 games everything is possible.

The REAL question is will u have to pay again for the content you already bought?
Adolph Fitler  +   546d ago
If you could transfer all PSN games on your PS3 HDD, well, barring b/c (as anyone that is being real knows it simply ain't happening), but if you could transfer, or re-download all your PSN games, without requiring you to purchase them again, wow, that's all I could really ask for from Sony.
It would be an awesome PS4 selling point, that cannot possible cop a negative spin from fanboys.......oh, hang on a second, there fanboys, they could spin negative crap out there rectum, when it comes to Sony hating.

All I know is that I will love getting my launch PS4 at midnight on whatever date, then getting it home & downloading or transferring ALL my PSN bought games from PS3 to PS4, all while playing my new collection of awesome launch games.
