Most Wanted Next-Gen: Doom 4

OnlySP: On December 10th, 1993 the world of gaming was shaken to its core with the release of Doom. Two years and ten million souls claimed later, Doom had given birth to a new culture of gamers and solidified the shooters as a key genre in the gaming industry. Doom II: Hell on Earth followed shortly after and further cemented the IP’s legend status. The term “Doom clone” was coined in reference to games who sought to get a taste of that pie, and eventually evolved to “first person shooter”, a term we use widely today. Just over ten years later, in August of 2004, id Software gave us Doom 3. This re-imagining of the original Doom title was critically acclaimed for nearly every aspect of the final product. And now, as we approach the release of next generation consoles, we can expect to dive right back into Hell with Doom 4. (Doom 4, Next-Gen, PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Used to be, but heck; it's been gone for so long I say let it go the way of the dinosaur and reboot the series before it's caught up in the Too Homan, Duke Nukem paradox that tends to happen games that have a multi-generational development time, but they won't. What usually happens afterwards is that you get sentimental developers who won't pull the plug and start over lag a bunch of dated ideas into the next gen and make the game sink the reputation of the franchise.

I used to be excited, but that was a long time before Rage came out. Id Software need to show us they can do game-play right. Rage ran smoothly at 60FPS, but the core gun game-play felt off.

EDIT: @nirwanda

Yes, Id Software developed the game, Bethesda just Published it. I think Bethesda bought Id in 2008 or 2009, I think Activision used to own them maybe.

Also (your other comment), yes said they had a small team working on Doom 4, and when Rage was finished they said that big team would start helping out with Doom 4. No news in a while, and I know they laid off a few people after Rage. (It has sold approx 3m according to VG Chartz, which isn't bad, but considering the time it took to make the game it is...something like 5-7 years to make)

Wasn't rage written by bethesta using i.d's engine or were bethesta just the publisher

I'd forgotten all about doom 4, didn't they start making it around the same time as rage.

More interactivity with the environment than Rage would be a good start. Rage looked great (other than texture pop up) but the whole world was very static, hope Doom 4 improves this drastically.

I really want the same feeling playing Doom 4 that I got when I first played Doom 3. Graphics were bleeding edge and scared the crap out of me at times. I would like less reading emails and listening to audio recordings though.

Id will deliver the goods on doom4. There aren't many game companies I trust implicitly. I can't wait for doom4. I don't even need multiplayer from them because their single player campaigns deliver enough for my 60 bux. Im happy playing cod and bf for my multiplayer thrills. I would like to see a solid multiplayer effort from them but I also dont wanna see a cod or bf clone. Hah! Doom a clone of other shooters?! Ironic isn't it?

Doom 4 is definitely not the most wanted next gen game.

It's a series of articles, not just one game.
