Police Believe Sandy Hook Shooting Was An 'Emulation' of Video Game Scenario

Anthony Accinelli of RealSG writes, "Now the police are looking into whether Adam Lanza was emulating a video game scenario while he massacred innocent kids. I've never read such bullshit in my life." (Culture, Industry)

AvidGamerrrr  +   865d ago
Couldn't agree more with Anthony here. This shit is getting old.
knifefight  +   864d ago
Seriously. And what game was he emulating, exactly?
That indie game about the Columbine Massacre? Because...
1) That wasn't a studio-published title, and
2) Um, that actually happened. It was a real-life event before it was a video game. Uh oh, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Oh wait, it's not that hard, actually. The real life thing came first and was played over and over again on the news non-stop. The American news networks may as well buy billboard advertising space that says "Want to be famous and do you hate your life? Shoot up a school. We'll talk about you for years." Freaking idiots.

these are the same people that think going to war is respectable. then those soldiers come back all kinds of fucked up.

you don't get PTSD and murder your whole family after playing Halo for a few months. can't really say the same thing about going to Afghanistan or Iraq.

we don't have a video game problem. we don't have a gun problem. we have a glorifying war problem.

in 2007-8 there was a report kid in ATLANTA under Custody in court manage to lift the sheriff gun shot him,the judge, most of the jury. after being pin down he claim he was playing CALL OF DUTY....
LightofDarkness  +   864d ago
Exactly spy. The problem is the common perception that the hero hurts the bad guys. What happens when someone has trouble identifying the bad guys, or simply has a different definition of bad guys? Or, in the case of our traumatised vets, when there aren't anymore bad guys (at least not ones you were trained to fight)?
kneon  +   864d ago
@TheRealSpy

There is such thing as a justifiable war, but it's been so long since we've seen such a war that I understand why people don't see going to war as respectable.
ApolloTheBoss  +   864d ago
I just amazing how stupid people can be. I anyone with a brain would know games aren't the problem.
JedMan1985  +   864d ago
I knew they would make games for the cause.
subtenko  +   864d ago
I think he emulates whats on the news or the police themselves, plus tv. Everyone's seen the show COPS. I blame TV including the news. So :P

P.S. this is more annoying than Jack Thompson now...I bet even he is shaking his head at all these headlines saying "Man these people are kind of dumb.."

Wow, I've played videogames for a long time and never did I feel the urge to kill a bunch of people or beat someone up.

This kid was straight up crazy and should have received proper treatment.
JoGam  +   864d ago
Exactly, if anything videos games relax me. After a long days work to go home grab a brew and pop in a game is fucking awesome.
DeadlyFire  +   864d ago
No evidence = video games did it.

Did I eat your cake? No. Fat Princess trained me to eat that damn cake.

Did I step on that mushroom in your yard. Your damn right I did. Mario taught me all mushrooms I step on make me grow.
Tonester925  +   864d ago
Did they ever blame the horrible parenting job in America yet? lol
Mounce  +   864d ago
Police believe a lot of things....people should have a right to tell them their Belief are as wrong as Atheists have a right to tell Christians that they believe them to be wrong.

Instead its like, Police/Politicians believe games are to blame....You want to tell us that we're wrong? We'll ignore you! You're probably in the wrong and we're in the right, and besides, your testimonies won't give us any money!

Police believe that they're not going to say it was aliens - but it was Gamers.
SeanScythe  +   865d ago
He was a sick in the Head POS, nothing else made him do it. It wasn't the Gun, Movies, or Games it was his own twisted mind.

I own guns and play violent games, I have never wanted to take them and hurt anyone. I don't even hunt with them they are for personal protection.

We have millions of people walking around that 20+ years ago would have been locked up in a mental home but now with Doctors just giving these people a pill and saying they are cured and safe to be with normal people are the problems.
kingPoS  +   864d ago
It's a sad truth that big pharma hardly ever get their share of the blame. The more important questions that should be asked rarely come up.

The media tasked with finding out what happened seems to avoid asking whether or not he was on any kind of hard medication. Instead they look into his video game preference.

WTF?!?!

There may be some truth to this! I was playing guitar hero and for that whole month I thought I was a Rockstar! So I go on my pc and tried to program my own version of gta5 and then gave up after 5 mins.

My finding is that guitar hero make me lazy and something has to be done about this!

You would have to be a complete nutter to start shooting people just because it happens in a game.
knifefight  +   864d ago
I hear most video games are programmed with computers, and initial communication about them is done via the internet.

Welp, sounds like we need to ban computers and internet. Gotta stop the flow of games, man!

Oh yeah, that mega-popular game on 360 and PS3 where you mindlessly kill random innocent children. Oh yeah, it doesn't exist. Sorry ignorant police. Look somewhere else!

Cam977  +   864d ago
Just stop. Why reignite the trauma of a tragic shooting for the sake of a biased, uneducated point of view? I was having a decent day until I was reminded of the victims to this event.
Just stop.
If it was video games then why is this the only case of this when gaming media is one of the most popular types of it? It was clearly his F-ed up mind. Not his gaming preferences, not his movie preferences, just his mind.

Lets blame video games again because its obvious the gun he used for the murders was taken out of the video game he was playing & used to murder these poor victims. Strong Evidence here they have. /s
caseh  +   864d ago
To state it was an 'Emulation' would suggest it was an exact replica of the game scenario. If its different, even slightly then it would have been a simulation.

Sorry, had to get that one off my chest *huff*

Don't blame video games, don't blame guns, don't make knee jerk do nothing legislation.

Enforce the current laws that are substantial, punish those that break the laws, and most importantly raise your kids right.

In the end nothing ever changes.

If it wasn't for the Roman game of Terni Lapilli the Germans would no doubt have ever though to keep trying to take over the world - damn these hate crazy games.

Also known as Tic-Tac-Toe :) .... best of 3 anyone?
clintagious650  +   864d ago
Its simple ban guns that way we can duel it out on the streets with fist. Oh wait i forgot any object can be used as a weapon but hey atleast drive bye's with thugs throwing rocks wont be as bad as guns lol.
VonBraunschweigg  +   864d ago
Did you play The Warriors? You can beat somebody to death with meat, foam hands, all kinds of stuff and you can do it in co-op to:) You hold her down and your buddy guts her with a broken bottle!

Great game, esp. when you know that chick is just an innocent bystander holding her schoolbooks, it's not like you have to do it. After gutting, don't forget to keep kicking her untill she stops making that horrendous sound.

And not a word in the media!

Bullshit. If Lanza had done it with 2 kitchenknifes chained to his wrists I could agree a videogame might have something to do with it, but guns? C'mon man.

Now if you excuse me im gonna go play metal gear rising after which im gonna take my katana and go slice people on the streets......geez those shitkickers got nothing better to do than blame it on things that are not to blame
If you are ok in a head than you will never do those things, things that need to be adressed is protection in public places/child abuse/parenting/........etc
modesign  +   864d ago
is it that time of year to blame the videogames for gun violence. lol
Stoppokingme  +   864d ago
With that logic I guess we should blame Link for the deforestation of the amazon. After all, he cuts down shrubs to make money, just like the loggers do.

What a load of B.S.

This shit really needs to stop I am so tired of these uneducated assumptions based on ZERO evidence. Please it's so annoying
solid_snake3656  +   864d ago
Dont blame guns, don't blame video games, just look at the drugs these kids are given since day one. The side effects these drugs have is just scary. Kids nowadays are more F**ked up then ever.
Bio_Mod  +   864d ago
police are fucked as are the american gun laws, it's simply easier to blame someone else though so we're not going to hear the end of this.
Ripsta7th  +   864d ago
Why does the govnt keep bothering with this? Do they want to be more exposed ?IM with the crowd that believes this was a Hoax, its just that there are many questions left unanswered. I was hoping they'd be exposed but seems impossible to , when they got news casts backing them up
aLucidMind  +   864d ago
List a single video game ever released that is on any of the consoles, past or present, that allow you to take an assault rifle and blow everyone at a school to hell. Not a single person could ever do that because there isn't one; the closest thing to it is the PS2 game, Bully, and the most lethal weapons there are stink bombs and balls made of rubber bands.

Also, name a single kid who has ever shot up a school, cited video games, AND has good/competent parents; not a single one. The problem is the kid, their environment outside of home, and their parents; video games might give ideas, but that is the very end of their involvement in any situation.
