PlayStation Plus Update: Vanquish Joins Instant Game Collection

We’ve got a monster update to the Instant Game Collection today as not one, but two fantastic games are coming to PS Plus members for free! By now, you’ve got your hands on last week’s addition: Closure. Dungeon Defenders is still free in PlayStation Plus, and has a PS3 Community XP Event coming up this Thursday (register here for more info). With tomorrow’s PlayStation Store Update, you’ll be able to download Vanquish and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X free if you’re a PS Plus member. We’ve got more including special content for Dust 514, and a launch week discount; so without further ado, let’s get to the goods.

I disagree, Abash. I don't think MS's team really dies all that much inside. It's MS's old-guard fans, like me, who die a little inside.

I used to be very proXBL, but I can't do it anymore. I can't deny that PSplus has become a far better value while my once preferred service, XBLgold, took "the path less traveled" into lands barren of gamer-goodness.

I can't foresee myself declining to re-up PSplus but I can only think of one reason to keep XBLgold - none of my REAL LIFE friends play games on PSN. It's the only reason anymore...

I agree, but many games can pull that off. God of War, Gears of War, which, IMO has better 3rd person game-play than Vanquish, although it is hard to compare as Vanquish 'does more'. Killzone is another example.

I think story is the hardest thing to master. Few games can do 'all 3'.

Vanquish is a great game but it's another game I already own, one of these days I will get something that I want or don't already own. I wish they would just give a token for a free download instead. It would be much better for everyone.

I think people would find a way to exploit that "token" system. Plus can't read your mind so it will never please everyone. You just have to deal. Sell your copy of Vanquish for 3 bucks and buy urself a Wendy's frosty.

Great idea! That way Sony and 3rd party devs won't have to bother with the inconvenience of making money. Why stop there? Perhaps they could also incorporate a system that includes you e-mailing them with your own personal tastes in games and fashioning the monthly updates to suit you, and you only!

Token system wouldn't work. The free games we get aren't just randomly chosen. It takes a lot of work with the IP owners to allow it on the PS+ service with a likely understanding that Sony will give them something in return, whether it's help with a future game or reducing fees for other games.

I think a tiered token system might work...where every game has it's own percentage off if you use a token and allowing multiple tokens to be allocated to a single game would allow those with specific tastes to get new games if they don't find enough interest in the 1 token freebies.

I think Sony just pays the company some flat-rate price for their game. Older games that are no longer selling much get offered some amount from Sony and if they accept it, we get it. In the case of some games they may yet still see more of our money as we might become interested in buying DLC for their game or we may become potential fans that buy their future products because of it.

PS+ is so simple, it's a surprise the other console aren't copying it. I'd be nice if they would, I'd be a lot more enticed to grab another system if it came with an "instant games collection" like the PS3 does.

You can go out right now, buy a new PS3 (they come with a year of ps+) and nothing else and be able to enjoy a handful of games right away.

Keep getting disappointed by these games, as I have like 90% of them.

Then a game finally comes along that has me very excited and looking forward to it that I don't have...... but it's for Europe only(sleeping dogs). Needless to say, I wont be renewing my sub when it expires, not unless they get some GOOD game in, one that everyone and their mothers hasn't had a billion chances to buy at dirt cheap prices.

We (EU) got that game a few months ago. At first I thought meh but after actually trying the game I was pretty amazed. It's a great TPS and getting it free on plus is the icing on the cake.

It is a little bit of a slow burn at first. Around the 6th mission (for me) and shit went into overdrive. Once you start sliding into enemies, slo-mo cap busting in exo-armor is the most fun you'll have...that day.

You will have some "holy crap this is awesome" moments if you stick with it though.

Vanquish one of the most underrated games this generation! Such a fun game although a little short it was unique & a blast to play.

Maverick Hunter X is a very good remake of the classic Megaman X. Worthy to be on anyones collection.

If you play a lot of video games & have PS3 or PSV or both you'd be a fool not to get PS Plus.. Its a must have for all PS owners from casual-core.. Only $50/yr is such a steal that it seems unreal to be getting all these free games..

I've owned Vanquish for a while and the action is INSANE.
There's so much going on on screen that it can be chaotic at times, but it's dame satisfying to be right in the middle of the action.

So since I have that, I'll be checking out the Dust starter pack and finally get into the beta, after I plat all of the GOW games in anticipation for GOW:A. Might drop a few bucks on Urban Style Freestyle as well.
