Bungie's Destiny releasing in 2013 is unlikely, says Geoff Keighley

PSU writes:

"Responding to a Twitter question, Geoff Keighley speculated on the release date for Bungie's new IP Destiny.

Speaking to PSU's very own Tim Nunes' Twitter question about Destiny looking "complete," Geoff had this to say:

"I would be shocked if it comes out this year."

GalacticEmpire4078d ago

It's much too ambitious to make it out this year, I also expect delays and technical issues to plague development as with most MMO games.

TimNunes4078d ago

It's interesting that Keighley indicated that the game isn't exactly an MMO, because the way he talked about it certainly made it sound that way.

1nsaint4078d ago

You know, this game has been in development since before halo ODST (i know this because of the teaser easter egg they have in ODST) and after the launch of reach, the full 350+ employes at bungie went working on this title.
So it easily could come out this year.

Not saying its 100% gonna be this year, but it could, its been in development longer then today

GalacticEmpire4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Really, I haven't heard about this, can you give me a link please?

@Angelic below
Never even considered that, fingers crossed :D

AngelicIceDiamond4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

I honestly would love for it to come out this holiday just to counter COD.

@Logic & Soldierone Yeah that's true. Either way at least Activision is giving me an alternative every other year. Instead of COD being the "must buy of the Winter." Destiny could be that much needed Ip to give people choice every other holiday at least.

LOGICWINS4078d ago

Nothing will ever be able to "counter" COD. When people stop buying COD, it'll be because people are tired of the franchise...not because they're buying another shooter instead.

Soldierone4078d ago

Activision is publishing both games, why would they want it to "counter COD" lol

If anything Activision will release this and keep milking COD till its death, thus making bank off both.

otherZinc4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Geoff was talking to PSU...so he's right; It wont be release this year for the PS3. In fact, it wont release for the PS3 ever.

Its a 360 exclusive and will release this fall.
Also, the split RAM of the PS3 will not allow an open world campaign co-op game to be made on the PS3.

If Uncharted could have campaign co-op, it would.
If The Last Of Us could have campaign co-op, it would.
But, they dont! There's a reason for that.

However, the next iteration will release on the PS4 and 720.

It's available for pre-order on the PS3 from their own website.

Although some of the online stores haven't quite got their act together on the UK side... the Amazon (UK) direct link for the 360 pre-order takes me to a "we cannot find the item you are searching for" link :|

palaeomerus4078d ago

Otherzinc it's an always online game. It's probably just going to have a client on the console and do most of the heavy lifting server side.

DigitalRaptor4077d ago (Edited 4077d ago )

I'll post this one last time so you can truly appreciate the special kind of fail that just happened. http://www.destinythegame.c...

No, it won;t be out this year.

fluffydelusions4078d ago

Gameplay looked like Halo to me...

Mainsqueeze4078d ago

Because it was in first person and had guns?

1nsaint4078d ago

To me it looked like a mix between mass effect, halo, borderlands, skyrim, rage, fallout and crysis :p which is pretty cool imo

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter325d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell324d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig325d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast325d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g325d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka325d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai476d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface475d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard473d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
