Bungie's Destiny releasing in 2013 is unlikely, says Geoff Keighley

PSU writes:

"Responding to a Twitter question, Geoff Keighley speculated on the release date for Bungie's new IP Destiny.

Speaking to PSU's very own Tim Nunes' Twitter question about Destiny looking "complete," Geoff had this to say:

"I would be shocked if it comes out this year." (Destiny, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

It's much too ambitious to make it out this year, I also expect delays and technical issues to plague development as with most MMO games.
TimNunes  +   521d ago
It's interesting that Keighley indicated that the game isn't exactly an MMO, because the way he talked about it certainly made it sound that way.

You know, this game has been in development since before halo ODST (i know this because of the teaser easter egg they have in ODST) and after the launch of reach, the full 350+ employes at bungie went working on this title.
So it easily could come out this year.

Not saying its 100% gonna be this year, but it could, its been in development longer then today

I honestly would love for it to come out this holiday just to counter COD.

@Logic & Soldierone Yeah that's true. Either way at least Activision is giving me an alternative every other year. Instead of COD being the "must buy of the Winter." Destiny could be that much needed Ip to give people choice every other holiday at least.

Nothing will ever be able to "counter" COD. When people stop buying COD, it'll be because people are tired of the franchise...not because they're buying another shooter instead.
Soldierone  +   521d ago
Activision is publishing both games, why would they want it to "counter COD" lol

If anything Activision will release this and keep milking COD till its death, thus making bank off both.

Geoff was talking to PSU...so he's right; It wont be release this year for the PS3. In fact, it wont release for the PS3 ever.

Its a 360 exclusive and will release this fall.
Also, the split RAM of the PS3 will not allow an open world campaign co-op game to be made on the PS3.

If Uncharted could have campaign co-op, it would.
If The Last Of Us could have campaign co-op, it would.
But, they dont! There's a reason for that.

However, the next iteration will release on the PS4 and 720.

It's available for pre-order on the PS3 from their own website.

Although some of the online stores haven't quite got their act together on the UK side... the Amazon (UK) direct link for the 360 pre-order takes me to a "we cannot find the item you are searching for" link :|

Otherzinc it's an always online game. It's probably just going to have a client on the console and do most of the heavy lifting server side.

I'll post this one last time so you can truly appreciate the special kind of fail that just happened. http://www.destinythegame.c...

Gameplay looked like Halo to me...

Because it was in first person and had guns?
1nsaint  +   521d ago
To me it looked like a mix between mass effect, halo, borderlands, skyrim, rage, fallout and crysis :p which is pretty cool imo

contract renegotiation. mt dew now too.
Fyflin  +   521d ago
Well it's already available to preorder for both the 360 and the PS3 but I really hope it gets moved to both next gen consoles so that is isn't held back in any way. I really like the integration of mobile phones too, reminds me of a more friend specific version of smartglass.

it makes sense that this game will come out next spring...no way would Activision put this game out in the fall to compete with COD. I dont think they are THAT stupid...well maybe they might be
allyc4t  +   521d ago
If it's not coming out this year, then why did they bother revealing it in the middle of February?
NateCole  +   521d ago
I think

1. Activision trying to piggy back of SOny's PS4 reveal media attention.

2. MS trying to take away some attention from Sony's PS4 reveal.
Jek_Porkins  +   521d ago
The Destiny reveal comes days before Sony's show, the gaming industry doesn't revolve around any one company.

Microsoft doesn't control Bungie or Activision, and Destiny is a multiplatform title, so I highly doubt Microsoft has anything to do with the reveal. A lot of Sony fans are really deep into the Microsoft conspiracy theories, they don't pay places to give Sony games bad reviews, and they didn't go into some secret meeting with Activision to steal Sony's thunder.

I think Microsoft will be just as interested in what the PS4 will offer as everyone else, personally I would like to reveal what I had last, that way it's freshest in everyone's mind. Which is why I highly doubt Microsoft is sweating the reveal.
NateCole  +   521d ago
MS bought time exclusive.

It does not make any sense to reveal it this early. Why do it 3 days before the PS4 reveal?.

Think.
evilhasitsway  +   521d ago
look at other games like agent which was show like a yr ago and still no game. this is just to say hey look were working on something new check it out.
Jek_Porkins  +   521d ago
It's not coming out this year because Activision didn't mention it to investors in their meetings. That is why it's hard to keep some games secret, they didn't list it in their earnings expectations and that would be foolish if they didn't plan it to release in the fiscal year.
Npugz7  +   521d ago
He's right! I doubt it will!
evilhasitsway  +   521d ago
i would say maybe this time next year or around may next year.
evilhasitsway  +   521d ago
i wish it was 3rd person though gettin old with all these first person shooters all the time cod halo mass effect border lands and the list goes on and on and on and on.....
