Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Preview | Nintendo World Report

Tom Malina: ''All across the world, Chinese communities are celebrating the coming of the Year of the Snake, but for the avid Nintendo fan, there was only one calendar on our minds this week.

During Thursday's Nintendo Direct presentation, Satoru Iwata helped bring in the "Year of Luigi," and at the head of this new movement for old Green 'Stache, we earned another extended look at the much-anticipated Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. The 3DS sequel to the ghostbusting GameCube launch adventure has been a long time coming, having made its surprise debut all the way back at E3 2011, but thankfully, the wait is nearly over. Now, with the game's March release impending, let us shed some light on the new details unveiled at the latest Nintendo Direct.''

Some great games there. Still waiting for the switch to become a real powerhouse with more of what Nintendo is known for. I feel that with 2 years in, it has been slow.

Luigi’s Mansion gave Mario’s brother his own identity

Before Luigi’s Mansion came out in 2001, Luigi was stuck in Mario’s shadow. Luigi started life as a green-colored palette-swap for Mario in the 1983 arcade game Mario Bros., and that was his role going forward for a long time. If a Mario game had two players, Luigi would be called into action.

That’s why the announcement of Luigi’s Mansion felt like such a big deal. Every major Nintendo home console had launched with a Mario game. Now, the GameCube was going to debut in 2001 alongside a solo Luigi adventure. Finally, the little brother plumber was getting the spotlight.
