How To Keep Mario Kart From Going Stale

Lucas M. Thomas: ''It’s been three weeks now since Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed the development of a new Mario Kart sequel for Wii U, an announcement that shocked absolutely no one. The Kart series has solidified itself as one of Nintendo’s no-brainer franchises – it’s just a foregone conclusion that a new sequel will show up on every new piece of hardware the company puts out.

For some, that regularity has become a comfortable consistency. For others, the series has grow too stale after too many sequels. So how can the upcoming Wii U edition keep the racing feeling fresh? We have a few ideas.'' (Mario Kart U, Wii U)

My two cents would be simply to keep the online system used in Mario Kart 7 (communities and what have you), make the game with a new engine instead of recycling the Double Dash engine again, make the gameplay a little faster and try to make the item balance a little more effective.

That's really it. Aside from some DLC and new concepts in levels, I'm pretty content with the current formula.

Or at least limit it's use...like in Mario 64 where it barely showed up. I would have enjoyed Mario Kart Wii a lot more if it weren't for that damn blue shell showing up so often. Where's the fun in playing a racing game that DOESN'T want you to play well and stay in first place? :(

I agree.

They should do a little like Smash Brothers and allow for certain items to be turned-off, increased, or decreased in frequency.

I find that many times Nintendo intentionally tries to make the game unsuitable for Competitions and Tournament Play (ironically like they did with the Trip mechanic in Smash Bros).

I think that they want to focus on the Fun buy making OWNing less certain. -

While I see their point-
-OPTIONS are a better choice. Allowing the game to appeal to a broader base.

They should let us make our own courses.

I think the move to HD and the online community from Mario Kart 7 is enough for the next Mario Kart game.

Customization and some track building would be awesome- kind of like the SSBBrawl level designer.

Make the tracks unpredictable and exciting so the levels would feels new and fresh from start to finish.

Add more characters and weapons.

Add some interesting and funny character animation to each character when ever one loses or win a race; yet allowing for more bragging rights against your opponents.
