Sounds like a good idea to keep people interested in the ps3.

Abash1258d ago

I doubt it, it'll likely be closer to when we hear the price of the PS4

darthv721258d ago

that is the focus of next weeks announcement??? I know everyone is wanting it to be about the PS4 but perhaps that will come in due time.

They could be doing a big announcement about new games and services and hit everyone with a nice fat price drop of both the vita and ps3 instead of the obvious.

It could happen but Im hoping for PS4 news instead.

donniebaseball1258d ago

@darth, it's already been well established that the event is about PS4. Even Wall Street Journal reported that, so a price cut if announced would only be a small tidbit at the event.

darthv721258d ago

sorry about that. I dont follow every article but I can assume that you are right.

Sony themselves have come right out and said we are announcing the ps4 on the 20th?

From what i gather from the majority of articles on this site (even the WSJ) is that it is speculated there will be a reveal of the ps4.

Even the WSJ can take part in that speculation because they know it generates hits. Not taking anything away from the hype but its too easy to get caught up in bits and pieces and then put them together to formulate a "possibility" of what to expect.

i remain cautiously optimistic we will hear some ps4 news. If it isnt what people are expecting, and turns out to be more about a price cut, that is still good news too.

thehitman1258d ago

@ darth consider the hype etc around the new ps4 news im sure Sony would have already released a statement debunking it in some way so im sure they will release ps4 news of some kind. I believe ps3 was also revealed around the same time of year as well not sure if it was the same event or not though.

@darthv72

Letting this amount of hype flourish unchecked by Sony would only hurt them if they delaying ps4 announcement. However, I could see them splitting the time up of this PlayStation Meeting between the PS3, Vita, and PS4. That is perfectly reasonable.

What I wonder is if they are going to announce a date or not. A reveal doesn't necessarily imply a release schedule. Opting not to set a date would help Sony keep their hand hidden from Microsoft. Then when E3 comes around they could set the date and still garner lots of buzz.

The best part of a reveal next week means, E3 will hopefully be all about the games for Sony whether they be for PS3, Vita, or PS4.

@darthv72

I do appreciate your opinion, but are you really considering how much money and brand equity is Sony investing in this solo event at New York with investors media and a bunch of gamers watching the stream online... Dude if they planned this just for a price cut they better shot themselves. There is no need to argue they'll be introducing new games or features, they have plenty of time to do that at E3 and other major gaming shows.

rainslacker1257d ago (Edited 1257d ago )

@darth

Sony hasn't confirmed anything, but it is the general consensus by most people. I was at the store the other day and there was a PS rep there, and while he said he said he didn't confirm anything, he was pretty obvious that what we speculated was true, along with a few other things which sounded cool.:)

Thats a good prediction. Hopefully it comes true. I have a prediction of my own.

Sony will show PS4 on Feb 20 and the internet goes wild. On Feb 21st, some troll will post their opinion 10 reasons why PS4 will fail. Smh..

You guys wanna guess who will be commenting first? A hint, Born 1989 and he's a "NeverEnding" troll.

kratos171257d ago

lol. You may have a point there.

badz1491258d ago

with the redesign PS3, Sony still haven't announce the imminent price cut yet and we know from the looks of it, the super slim is cheap, built-wise! so...this might actually having higher odds to happen on the 20th than the announcement of the PS4 IMO.

Irishguy951257d ago

Sorry this is common sense. The successor of playstation is announced...the price of it's counterpart is dropped. This happens with almost everything

I understand why they would do it. If they announce the ps4 a lot of people would rather wait for it. If a price cut is announce then it will be easier for new consumers to shell out money even when knowing a new one will be coming out soon.

wishingW3L1258d ago (Edited 1258d ago )

but people buying more PS3s now could make the PS4 to sell at a slower pace in its launch.

SoapShoes1258d ago

Yes but more profit from the PS3 means potentially the PS4 could be sold at a lower price because of the padding from PS3 profits.

guitarded771258d ago

"Says Pachter"... So the PS3 is going up in price???

BanBrother1257d ago

Thinking the same thing. Damn I was hoping for a price cut, but this means they are going up in price if Patcher says so.

The price cut doesn't effect me, unless the new coloured slims go on sale. Been wanting one of them.

ArmGunar1258d ago

So it won't be a price cut next week ^^

The Great Melon1258d ago (Edited 1258d ago )

Close. The opposite of price cut is a price increase.

=P

Bathyj1258d ago

finally this guy says something i agree with.

it would make sense to announce ps4, drop the price on ps3 and ride the good press all the way to e3 where you steal the show with actual playable games.

Ddouble1257d ago

This.

If they drop the price it will keep the momentum they have going especially with the exclusives on t he way.

It would also make sense why they didn't drop the price after the super-slim came out. They made money in the holidays keeping it at the same price and now they can drop it after PS4's announcement.
