Why The New PS4 Controller Design Is A Worthy Successor To DualShock 3

It seems that Sony have learned their lessons from the DualShock 3 controller. Judging closely, the new controller looks like a worthy successor to DualShock 3 in the following ways: (PS4, Sony)

so they integrated Playstation Move. Interesting.

Someone needs to pay for leaking this talking jail time
TheGamerDood  +   1086d ago
Damn you that's harsh. lol
awesomeperson  +   1085d ago
This leak seems to have come in a very timely manner. It has managed to generate even greater hype, articles, and speculation which all build to the announcement on the 20th. It seems to have acted as a minor viral advertisement for Sony's big event.

I always do question how many leaks are intentional. Either way - there is so much hype surrounding the reveal that I really hope Sony do show some amazing stuff.

Not that serious, man lol.
Sharius  +   1085d ago
it is just me or i really think it was sony who leak those picture out
stage88  +   1085d ago
So Sony leak the prototype controller and you want them to go to jail for that?
GribbleGrunger  +   1085d ago
... and national service for those who read it!
Army_of_Darkness  +   1085d ago
Relax guy, it's just a prototype controller leak, lol! no need to go all judge Dred on us.
dboyc310  +   1085d ago
Seriously I wouldn't be surprised if sony themselves did it on purpose to create more hype. For example on valentine day that bulky prototype was "leaked" then the next day a more updated version was leaked too. Honestly I think they did it to see the crowds reaction.
SilentNegotiator  +   1085d ago
It happens every time with Playstation stuff. I'm starting to think that it's probably intentional.

I dont really see how the move improves gameplay necessarily, to me it just made tasks I could easily perform with a controller more complex.

I suppose it is good for a few motion focused niche games but motion controls are not the future or at least they are not advanced enough to give us the control range equal to a controller.

What SONY should really look at is that VR headset John Carmack is developing, now that has some practical use in that it intensifies the immersion.

The move was built with custom game modes in mind, things that require great precision, like Tumble. Instead it was used greatly to replace regular controls, because its less of an investment. Also John Carmack isnt developing the Oculus Rift. He just thinks its something to look into.
Oschino1907  +   1084d ago
Sony is currently developing their own VR headset.

A few companies are actually taking VR headsets very seriously.
MightyMatt101  +   1085d ago
I like the move integration and touch pad you get what the hardcore want and what the casual want in one (at most likely if Sony is smart around the same price of a normal dual shock) not having to buy extra for the crowd that likes motion/touch control is a very smart (playstation)move ;)

Sony has always provided the best controllers (in my opinion). I'm looking forward to seeing this one's particularities.
cleverusername  +   1085d ago
Lighter isn't better imo, I'd rather they kept it as it is!

I am sorry, but that's just ugly in my eyes. It might feel great to hold and play but that square in the middle is just... wrong.
yess  +   1085d ago
But most of the time you will be staring at the tv screen, so i think you can live with it.

Wait, you just said you don't care if it feels and plays great if it's ugly looking?

You DO know what a video game controller is suppose to be, right?

That square in the middle lights up to give players some info dufus.

LED touch screen and headphone jack I think are both smart and will be the most helpful additions players are going to value a lot overtime.
EditorAtGNG  +   1085d ago
Why? Aren't hints and icons on the screen enough? Or is this something they had to copy from Nintendo? Maybe for shortcuts but even that seems rather excessive. Whatever.
coolasj  +   1085d ago
Because it's always good to have more places to display information. It's hardly an original idea, a screen on a console controller. I for one would love to have an extra 6 or something buttons and another interface.
EditorAtGNG  +   1085d ago
I wasn't talking about its usability. I was merely stating my own disagreement with their design choice (why fix what ain't broke, eh). No need to get angry with a personal preference.
HarryMasonHerpderp  +   1085d ago
Didn't the SEGA Dreamcast have first controller to have a mini screen built in?
one2thr  +   1085d ago

Yeah, it was and it allowed gamers to detach it from the controller and play mini games that'll reward players for doing so. On the console halfpart of the game...

Well alter the game save in a way that'll benefit the gamer

@ cooasj I just remember the dreamcast VMU great idea at the time
Whitey2k  +   1085d ago
i wonder if the control or the headphone jack similar to the xbox one
subtenko  +   1085d ago
Speaker on a controller that it's primarily a motion controller :D but CAN be used as motion for extra functionality is good!
Omar91  +   1085d ago
I dont know. Im not feeling all this gimmicky stuff on a controller. I rather they have it keep it simple with extra features of course but not with the screen and move support. But we know nothing of what the controller will actually include or even look like at the moment so for now I'll keep positive.

it looks and will be amazing
TotalHitman  +   1085d ago
I fail to see the difference between sixaxis and PlayStation Move built in a Dualshock.
Npugz7  +   1085d ago
I love the new design!
strickers  +   1085d ago
I love everyone says the analogue sticks are like 360 ones. Actually they are like the ps1 first analogue pad
The size is closer to that pad too.
porkChop  +   1085d ago
Yup, the 2nd gen PS1 controller had analogs like that. They were great too. I just hope that Sony tightens up the sticks on this one, because the sticks on the DS3 are way too loose.
