"An illuminated panel along the top can change colour and behaves just like a Move controller, a development source has told CVG. Combined with the same gyro and velocity sensors introduced with the PlayStation 3's Sixaxis, the PS4 pad is said to be an "enhanced motion control device"." Okay - if I'm reading this correctly, this controller honors the past while also embracing the future. Call me crazy, but I'm extremely anticipating seeing how it works. This sounds like Sony's philosophy entirely wrapped up in a controller.
Bubbs to you!!
""you'll notice that the PS4 d-pad has seemingly been redesigned to more closely resemble that of the PS Vita's own version - excellent news for fans of fighting games"" Music to my ears!
Agreed. While that particular picture was just a concept mock-up, I think it will very closely resemble the final product because it maintains the same look as the PS4 controller prototype, while also looking much more polished. Personally, I think the controller will be amazing.
Sixaxis was cool, it was just a option to play the game in a different way if you wanted to try and this seem to be going the same route and that is cool.. PS4ever
The share idea seem awesome. It's a guarantee now that the reveals coming on the 20th so we'll see.
The dev station pics really makes me think they're shooting for the sky. The move light bar on the controller and two cameras (clearly visible on the dev kit) could be used for this. http://www.youtube.com/watc... Only the view would change when you move the controller (verses glasses like in the video). Based on it's inclusion out of the box we could see these type of effect possible in every game as default, with no sacrifice to traditional control methods. This tech has the potential to significantly enhances your immersion in the game world and offers a very cool 3d effect with no need for 3d glasses or tv! Even better imagine it used in tandem with 3d glasses and you have a 'holographic effect' which was eluded to by a sony exec more than a year ago (can't find article) :-) http://www.extremetech.com/... The PS4 has to AMAZE us and what better way to do that than to be the first to market with 3d (3d effects)on any tv, and HOLOGRAMS (holographic effects) for those with 3d tvs!
man, that controller is basically a PS Vita w/o the OLED screen and back touch pad.
all i want is a traditional controller, nothing more. kinect, move and all that sht..no thanks. thas for children
I like the fact that it looks like you have a built in trackpad for precision movements, and/ or a built in Move should you choose. I'm not a fan of peripherals, but I don't mind features if they're integrated into a form factor that I already use and enjoy. Let's be honest, Move was the most precise of the 3 motion types, but also between the Wii and Kinect for being finicky to set up. If they nail the precision without some weird camera setup (super wide lens maybe?) then this could be crazy fun to play with. Edit: The headphone jack and potential built in mic are also pretty cool.
The controller looks sick, I like everything about it. I like that Sony is intergrating move connectivity with it. I don't like sex toys man.. The analog sticks got a nice look to them....the controller is nice tho, it got a great quality look to them.
The more I look at these pictures the more I realise that those analogue sticks are NOT 'concave' They are rounded with an extra lip around the edge.
Yes you are right, there was an article earlier that stated this also and I believe you are right. Well well, we will get to know a lot on the 20th. five freakin days from now.
Yes. The analog sticks look like the top of the Vita's analog sticks. The d-pad also looks like the one on the Vita. The best case scenario for me is that the PS4 controller was like the controller in the article picture and was able to split in two. To me that would be best of all worlds (dualshock, move, vita) and everyone would be satisfied.
yeah Games Radar and many media are at it again. saying the concave is a copy of the 360 controller.
I heard we can even plug our earphones in! NOW THATS AWESOME
If that's true they have really learned from the past. If its as easy as grabbing my iPhone headphone and plugging them in I see the community really expanding. That one thing I like about Xbox Live.
If it did this when being turned on I would be happy http://i.imgur.com/I0Q3KPD....
yeah that would be real neat. touch access to some stuff on the controller. Browse and control music withouth pausing the game and lots of other things could be avalable and display through the controller at any given time... yup that would be nice.
Touch pad for cursor control on a revamped browser would be good. It looks a little chunkier as well which is welcome. The new d-pad looks nice as well.
Now that looks impressive!
Except that it seems it won't be a touchscreen but a touchpad from what they tell us (although a point against this would be taken on a touchpad being glossy and not matte). http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C...
They're concave and convex! Brilliant! It works with all genres!
I still hope it's a touch screen and not just a touch pad. I just don't see as much use of a touch pad. With a touch screen there is so much more application.
there are a lot of uses also for a touchpadx like swiping gestures for melee attacks in stuff like Killzone.
Sony has to take advantage of this tech which is what the PSVita has. For me, this touchpad is more practical. Practical since the aspect ratio matches most if not all HD sets, and something that doesn't require the user to look anywhere but the screen when using it, as opposed to looking at the Wii U's gamepad when using it for inventory access and stuff. Imagine using a mouse peripheral on the PC; This touchpad will allow for more 1:1 selection feature like in most RTS games. Draw functions will also be enabled so games like Scribblenauts and minigames that require scribbling will be possible. All that without looking away from your monitor! That said, this may take quite a longer learning process to get used to, but nothing too difficult.
Why would you need a headphone jack, my blutooth works great.
They will probably include a wired headset in every box so everyone can cross game chat.
Have they finaly confirmed cross game chat is in then?
@ujean69 the PS vita has party chat (aka Cross Game Chat), dont be surprised if its ubiquitous with the PS4. its obvious that the PS4 will have it.
I love how I got disagrees, so you three have been to my house and tested my bluetooth headset huh?
But will the final design split into 2 halves for 2 moves? So excited for the 20th! New consoles launch!
I hope so. 1 controller to rule them all.
I dunno, that would kind of look weird with it having some sort of seam in the middle for splitting it apart. Not sure how that would work exactly... Suppose we'll just have to wait till the 20th to find out what IS and ISN'T a part of the controller.
hmm wonder which button we gonna use to spot enemies on battlefield now?
I want to see this bad boy in action.. How/what will they use these new features for? Thank goodness the controller isnt a helipad device thats half the systems price..
Your comment made my day thank you! Spot on and funny regarding the WiiU. But lets be honest, there is no way its controller is even worth half its price considering the spec it sports.
Really excitied for this controller and the system
since the ps4 is using the vita's d-pad I wouldn't be surprised if the R2 and L2 are like the ps move controller triggers
Funny how there's no SONY on it yet a PS logo...
Imagine if the PS4 controller can be deconstructed from a DS4 into a Move.
I thought the entire idea of the trackpad being on the back of the ps vita, was so that you could make use of your often unused ring/middle fingers???? moving the touchpad to the front now just means its an alternative to the analogues. Why would i want to remove my thumbs from the analogues just to use a touchpad??? especially considering most games require you keep you fingers on the analogues for movement and camera control. Please let the track pad be in the back of the controller!!!!
Don't worry you'll get used to it and maybe even like it. Right now we haven't seen what the trackpad is able to do but maybe it will lar to even cooler gaming experiences
I really like that design!!!
No change is boring. Too much change is risky. I think the PS4 controller concept has the right amount of both. It Looks awesome! I cant wait to get my hands on it...
umm, I appreciate motion control and all...but that looks like a retarded way of doing it.
didnt another artical say the touch pad was a button as well?
