TheOverseasConnection - One thing that can be said for sure about 2013 is we know a lot about what is coming before June of this year for console gaming, but not a lot about what is coming after. Now much of this is due to the secrecy of the expected new gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Everyone is trying to play their cards close to their vest in order not to give away next gen release dates and/or secrets of the new hardware. Its an exciting time in the industry for sure but many are not going to be jumping into next gen right away. So for them, what do they have to look forward to?
good reasons
1. sometimes games are out of production and therefore can only be bought second hand
2. if the game is good the dev likely earned a fan who will buy their next game.
3. it brings in revenue to stores and keeps people employed.
piracy earns devs fans but earns nobody revenue. easy access to piracy also means that person is likely to pirate your next game anyway so who cares if you earned a fan. nothing good comes from stealing
So, if developers stop producing a game, how do gamers get to experience them?
Sometimes you have no choice to buy used if it's a game that is no longer in production. How is that like piracy to developers?
I think you need to rethink your argument.
