PS4/Xbox 720 Need To Please The Hardcore Gaming Crowd By Competing With Steam

"With the big day approaching soon, there are a lot of assumptions on what Sony are going to announce on February, 20th. There are several rumors each day and it is getting like a big cloud of dust, where nothing is clear." (PC, PS3, PS4, Steam, Xbox One)

That isn't going to happen (Consoles competing with Steam).
Xbox is a very closed system and so is PS3, just not as bad as Xbox. The only way that will happen:

People do not buy the next Gen systems, haha, that was funny just saying it!

Or the Steambox just kicks ass. I think it will do ok, but not a serious competitor to the Big Two!

Well, you have to get console gamers to accept DD first.

I also fail to to see what competition with Valve will actually do for the customer. I mean the prices are great and the service is good. GFWL sucks in comparison and Sony doesn't really have a presence on the PC.

Not that there shouldn't be competition, I just don't see how it benefits PC gamers.

There could be a benefit to console gamers, but the vast majority are fine the current set up. So are MS and Sony it seems. Why arbitrarily start competing to lower prices, or whatever, when you don't have to.

The Steam-box is not going to be a console by definition. Nobody seems to understand this. Its a PC that looks and acts like a console. Mini PC's have been around for quite a while now. Valve wants to put something together for the folks are interested in PC gaming but prefer consoles. Its NOT going to be a closed system that has its own exclusives. That is exactly the opposite of what Valve wants to do.

Valve wants to move the open environment of the PC into the living room. That's all.

As far as Linux is concerned, Valve is trying push for an alternative to Windows.

I don't think they need to necessarily 'compete' with Steam. I think Steam needs to worry more about them.

However, i think the PS4 and 720 do need to remain focused on the hardcore fans. We built this market. I feel that Nintendo's wii lead the market down a long dark hallway away from what really mattered. Now everyone sees that the casual market is not wHat sells in the long run. The wii and motion controls worked short term but we all realized quickly that it was not the direction we wanted to go.

Graphics, gameplay, awesomeness is what we want.
