Two years ago, Nintendo was in trouble. The House of Mario had just released a brand new handheld system with impressive 3D graphics, but nobody seemed to care. Sales were sluggish and reception wasn't great.
Though it does have a huge array of software, thanks in part of its BC with NDS software.
Even its 3DS library has developed suprisingly well, given how young the console is. I can't think of a single other console that has had so diverse a library including such good games so early in its lifespan. Sure, there are a TON of things we can criticize Nintendo for... but the way they managed to turn around the 3DS is just plain impressive. It would be nice if Sony could follow suit.
It would be nice if people like you gave them time to with the Vita as if they haven't already done that with the PS3 anyway.. The 3DS was out practically an entire year earlier and the fact they immediately dropped the price drastically shortly after release also makes a big difference not counting they already had been making handhelds before with already made relationships with plenty of developers... What did Sony have only the PSP and a new slate to start on, having to gain the same respect Nintendo had gotten and that is exactly what they did. Does that not count for anything? To say Sony hasn't turned around anything is kind of ridiculous, as to why I mentioned the PS3, the PS3 was in the same boat.. just like the 3DS was, it was over priced, not many were buying enough of them because of that and there weren't that many games on release that interested enough people for a good while. Sony was doing the same thing Nintendo was with the 3DS with their PS3, dropped the price and started providing it with better games over the years and look how well it came back. So I guess Sony doesn't know how to work or turn around anything? Bunch of hogwash. What seriously makes the 3DS situation so different from the same situation Sony had to deal with during the PS3's time period? Nothing really in my opinion. Vita will be no different if anything it's recovering faster than I thought it would especially with the list of games that are being announced for it lately and only more to come within it's lifespan just like the 3DS, it takes time to build a good software library. As they say it is always the same shit but different flies.
^ I think you misinterpreted a fairly innocent comment by Canary and got all defensive over nothing.
It's crazy because they have a ton of 3rd party support for their handhelds but not their consoles.
@FatOldMan: Pretty much. Fanboys seem very defensive lately. I guess the console war is about to heat up? To be fair, though, I did actually mention Sony. If you'll look at my comment history, you'll see that yesterday or the day before someone started calling me Sony Fanboy because I criticized something Nintendo did. You really can't win in these situations. If you say something positive about one thing, your a fanboy for it; if you say something negative about one thing, your a fanboy for another thing.
N4G community giving Nintendo its due? Nah.
There was a lot of doom and gloom for this device and even most folks here at N4G proclaimed this device a failure before it even launched. It was laughed at and disregarded for the longest and I remember even a few on here dismissed it because it lacked a second analog. But if there is one thing Nintendo reigns in dominance is the handheld video game market. The 3DS is a great little machine with a great library of games. Can't wait to see that new Castlevania in action.
Correction: Best-selling gaming machine. On the other hand it may be "the best", but that is purely a matter of opinion :)
I have both but i like my Vita more.
Alot of great stuff coming for 3ds, can't wait! Did you see the Wii U / 3ds connectivity for Monster Hunter in the direct this morning? Looked pretty sweet
The thing is, Nintendo's integrity was never questioned in regards to their ability to make a portable. They've reigned supreme in the handheld market, and I loved my DS-lite far more than my PSP. It's their integrity with the Wii, and the WiiU in particular where general consensus may falter between "meh" to "evil company selling out to make quick cash by implementing cheap gimmicks while ignoring their core consumer's ever expanding list of requests". Just to clarify.
owning a vita and a 3ds, i can say the 3ds has some of the best content on the go imop, (fire emblem, monster hunter etc.) its a great system for on the go with unique eshop titles. I personally want to play fire emblem but im waiting till spring break. Cant wait for Phantasy Star online for vita.
Let's all hope PSO 2 is still even going to be localized for the PS Vita.. No word about it this far in is somewhat disheartening. Especially when we know that the PC version is but just have been left in the dark about the PS Vita version.
Really? did not know the pc version was left out.... i wanted to play in both systems now im dissapointed.
Its got a pretty strong line up for 2013 but the eshop has to improve and add GBA titles!
the e shop needs a download history like psn its the main reason im not buying anything from the e shop
There is one, in the options menus, you can see all the previous software that you bought/downloaded, and download them again through there, it is a bit messy though.
Don't get me wrong the vita needs more time and i'm not sure i'd toss in the towel yet. I own a vita and since release i've only purchased 2 games uncharted and AC. The only other game that i have seen that really pecks my interests is PSO2 for this year. I don't hate my vita but this years E3 is real inportant for me and i'm sure many others. 3DS is picking up alot of steam fast and it's outlook looks more promising right now. I'm sure killzone and tearway will be great but i'm not a big fan of killzone and the other, i'm not sure how i feel about it yet. I'd love some more uncharted tho and some good vita rpgs. Well that's my opinion.
I agree with you, i want to see more vita titles, kill zone for vita needs to come out soon, for RPG's i would like to see more.
I use my 3ds everyday and it is my favorite portable all time.
I totally have to agree with this. I almost want to call it my favorite nintendo system to date. Never before has a system been so giving to me. I got probably 25-30 games for free since i've gotten it and it's getting to the point where my 3ds game library is starting to become bigger than my 360 and wii libraries. Streetpass keeps it in my pocket all day and the games are just so freaking good. In the time I've owned it I've logged over 1000 hours of gameplay on it. It really is a spectacular system.
and the dominance continues
The 3DS has some great games, but to call the 3D graphics "impressive" is quite a stretch.
yea . revelations on 3ds looks very bad
3DS is definitely an unstoppable force in handheld gaming. I remember when I bought my Sega Game Gear back in the day I thought it was so much better than the regular Game Boy, but people just love Nintendo's handheld consoles. I think at this point people just trust that brand the most when it comes to handhelds, and they do a good job with the Nintendo Direct videos, those really seem to speak to the people who own Nintendo hardware.
Vita is a lot better system... I have both
resident evil revelations and super street fighter 4 don't have impressive graphics on 3ds? you never played those game or you just a a hater.
I haven't played my 3DS since Kingdom Hearts 3D and I can't see any other games on the horizon except for Pokemon X and Y.
A lot of upcoming games I'm excited for are on 3DS; Animal Crossing, Project X Zone, Pokemon X/Y. I still want to pick up Fire Emblem too and a new Legend of Zelda shouldn't be too far away.
YES!!! More tired old Nintendo franchises are coming to the 3DS!! Oh what a joy it is to be alive today!! Seriously Nintendo. How about some goddamn new IPs?
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is a great addition to the 3DS, no more waggle controls, I'm excited!
