Do We Need New Consoles?

Many claim that consoles are no longer relavent or central to gaming. Everything revolves around indie, mobile, and Steam these days, it's sometimes hard to imagine that many people are actually that excited for another costly box from Microsoft and/or Sony. But there are good reasons why a new console generation would benefit us all, even the most ardent and proud of the PC elite.

I would have said no half a year ago but now with alll this hype its hard not to be swept up in it and now here I am waiting excitedly for the reveal of the ps4 and you can bet I will be pre ordering the second I get a chance too!

Well the good news is that thanks to the Wii U, we'll probably see pretty solid 3rd party support on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for years to come, so if you aren't able to buy new consoles at launch, you can always hold onto what you've got and save up. I think the quality of the games coming to current consoles is probably going to be better than what comes to next gen systems at start.

There is always a bit of a wait before the new consoles hit their stride.

i dont. id like them but if they didnt drop for another 2 years i wouldnt care. i have 170 games for 360 and 30 for ps3. i havent beaten all of them ( not even close in fact ) and i love buying older games for cheap. it will be a while before i "need" them personally.

all that said, ill still buy both the ps4 and 720. on day one if they are BC or have dark souls 2, prob 6 months later if not

Old consoles aren't the ones holding PC back, it's AAA publishers completely ignoring any PC game without a console port released on the same day.

In fact the consolization (for lack of a better word) is hindering many of the best games to get for PC. Skyrim and Far Cry 3 made the inventory system an incredible pain to use on PC because they just copied how it works on consoles...

What kind of question is that? The current consoles are handling so called next gen games like crap, the anti aliasing is extremely poor on them, textures and graphical effects are suffering from resource usage by the next gen physics in games.

New consoles would finally bring the gaming to the next level. The games are fine, but graphically they could have been better on consoles. Just look at AAA games on PC, especially PC exclusive games.
