What People Used To Say About The First Xbox

Kotaku - We don't know every last thing about the new Xbox. Some leaked details, for the most part, sprinkled with a liberal helping of rumors. While we wait for new bits and pieces to be revealed, why not reminisce a bit? Let's have a look at how the very first Xbox, turning 12 years old this year, was received.

its too big, MS has no business in video games, the controller sucks, .....the list of negativity goes on and on.

Oddly enough, there were many who said similar things about sony when they entered into the console market. Die hard sega and nintendo fans said that the PS would fail and sony has no business in gaming.

Funny how things work out over time.

On the positive side though, both sony and Ms have contributed to this industry and have really made a name for themselves. Be it with the games or the hardware or the features, both are deserving of their place among the companies of gaming past, present and future.

Well the controller did kind of suck... You know there was a problem when some people actually had difficulty reaching the buttons. Microsoft realized this after it was on the market a bit and downsized the controller and moved the black and white buttons closer to the thumb.

The original controller was enormous...

Halo really did them wonders. I attribute that game to why we have Xbox today

I agree, but I also have to say it was the online. It was ether PC or Xbox and at least on xbox you had two things going that PC did not. One chat channel everyone was on and the cheating was almost none compared to PC.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis20h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

Downplaying every rendition of elves over a period of 70+ years? What kind of headline is that?

kythlyn7d ago

That and they're not that great. =_=; Game's too short to really get to know them.

"I won’t make that mistake again." It's impossible to that mistake again, so of course the write won't make it again.

LMAO what?! Every article that sings DD2's praises just seems off now that I've played it for myself. Its a mid game, 7/10 at best and that is generous. The elves are a joke too, much less interesting than say the Witcher 3's elves or Baldur's Gate 3's elves.
