Great, more worthless golden keys in Borderlands 2...

why are they worthless?

They constantly offer them, so they're not in short supply.
They unlock purple / alien weapons on your level, which aren't unique.
There is plenty of ways to farm this stuff with only 1 key.
By the time you can make the most of them (level 40+), you most likely will have something better.
Weapons are random, so it's completely possible to get a bunch of guns you don't or can make effective use out of. A good example would be the splatter shotgun.
Finally there are plenty of people completely able and willing to dupe legendary weapons for you, which vastly outweigh any use this would give at level 50.

So since you asked me, what is the value in the keys?
