Gameranx: "Aussie gamers are unable to play Aliens: Colonial Marines on the PC despite the game's early launch on Steam."
Its prob a good thing from all the bad i have been hearing about it.... hahah
I have had issues like this before with games that unlock on Steam or digitally. The USA seems to forget that there are quite a few countries that are ahead of them as far as days and timezones go. So the games always seem to unlock on the American version of the date rather than the actual proper date for that country. We seem to get a bad deal here in NZ and Australia, late releases and when we do get them early, like this one, with the whole digital crap it won't let us play till the American launch anyway. >.<
Valve is based in the US. If it were in another country then it would it use the timezone of that country. So there was a mix up on the release, it sucks but its not the end world. And, like sithsylar said, its probably a blessing in disguise.
But they didn't use the correct release to their timezone, that was the issue. If they planned on only having said game available from an American date then they should have organized the release date in other countries to coincide with that date if the game was going to be unavailable to play otherwise. How hard is it to change an unlock date back one or forward one day based on country of release, especially when Steam is separated into different country stores to begin with. Your right, its not a big deal, its a mistake, abd these things happen. If the show was on the other foot tho, I'm sure if a game was released in the States and masses brought it only to find out it didn't unlock for another two days because the company behind it was based in some other country there would be hell to pay.
How will they even find time to play it, with all the crocodiles running around?
Well with all things being as they should, the game should have been released "on time", but to be honest they're not missing out on much. Played some of it this morning and I have to say it's a very average game. The shooting is okay and uses the customary shooting scheme layout we all are use to (not saying anything is wrong with that). Yet the feeling of being scared/suspense is certainly not there.
oh the humanity!
