Next-Gen Sales to Top 300 Million Units Sold; Why That’s Possible

Looking at years past its easy to see nothing but a steady climb in the sales numbers from generation to generation. We have had record setting numbers every generation, and we should expect nothing less this next generation. We also explore the reasons why. (Industry, Microsoft, Next-Gen, Nintendo America, PS4, Sony, Wii U, Xbox One)

I don't see that happening

Kaz comes out on stage on the 20th

Kaz says: good evening ladies and gentlemen we are going to be the exclusive console provider in china, this is our big news. We will reach billions of people that we could never reach because of being banned over a decade ago. Our sales will at-least reach half a billion lol.

I think its possible if consoles are not just sold in certain regions in china on black markets, there are tons of places without consoles over there. Its a pc gaming country because of this also.

me neither to be honest. If the market is shared equally, as it has been this gen, then I can't see it hitting that lofty prediction. I can see that there could a bigger split next gen, but which way that split goes depends entirely on the loyalty of the fanbases in the different regions. If America is shared and Europe sticks with the PS brand then it will be Sony that benefits. If Europe is shared and and America stick with the Xbox brand then it will be MS that benefit.

It is reasonable, we are near that number now 98 wii sold, 76 xbox 360, 74.2 ps3 = 248.2. Consoles currently has sold over 250 million as of today.

Im thinking if MS gets to have support from Time warner, comcast, fios, they will sale over 105 Million in the usa alone. If Time warner does use the 720 as a set cable top box, it will be over before it gets started. Thats what they were in talk about in redmond, but nothing was said afterwards, same with MMO warcraft 7 years ago, but 360 was not powerfull enough. Wonder if the 4 MMO coming to 720, 1 of them its warcraft?

Quite unlikely.
Though I suppose so if the next gen lasts longer than this last gen.
Bathyj  +   101d ago
Its totally possible.
When all is said and done this gen wont be that far short of it.

But I dont see WiiU being the sales monster Wii was and theres always a chance the games market is going to crash anyway so it is probably pretty unlikely.

No way it may not even top 100 million now that we know the Wiiu is selling like ice pops in the North Pole.

Unlikely... but for a gamer like myself id love for it to happen. Would like to see the gaming community thrive and maybe them doom articles would end .....at least till the next generation.

Before we/they start talking about their lushious sales predictions how about we talk more along the lines of the things say like... the things these game companies are talking of implementing that are going to damn near piss off the entire gaming community? cause theres plenty of that to be sorted/ironed out!

China needs to lift there console ban! Everyone wins

You just can't compare gaming in 90's to gaming from today.
Gaming has become mainstream and everything has changed because of that.

BIG doubts unless PS4 is more of a hit than PS2. And NextXbox does nearly as well. As for wiiU when the exclusives start moving the wiiUs will also.
Starfox17  +   101d ago
WiiU will sell 20 million a year quite easy when the games start coming.
VirtualKatz  +   101d ago
I think much of this will come from whether or not they competitively price the next two launches. The pricing will heavily effect whether or not this happens. On top on of that I think the number of applications and exclusive offerings will round out the system and make it more appealing to casual audiences.

300 MILLION? Those days are gone, if they were ever here to begin with. I think next generation wont see anywhere near that. I suspect we'll go back to a standard 5 year cycle now and I don't see those numbers in that short a time.

300 Million units? whow much will next gen consoles cost? $99.99 usd?
VirtualKatz  +   101d ago
More than anything we have to remember it will have been 8 years since the launch of a new system when we finally see the 720 and PS4. I think we can assume that companies will continue to attempt to bring more things to keep the same system appealing versus launching a new one and costing them more money. I think we very well may be looking at a 10 year life cycle with the next. Remember too Sony already commits to this with all their consoles.
