Oh boy. Look, we are a niche culture of people who have a niche hobby. Historically, gamers, comic book nerds, and geeks of all kinds have been shunned, ostracized, and bullied by these types of people. I don't care who plays games, or who tries to become a gamer. But there is one prerequisite... And that is playing games. Not just using them as a fashion accessory, and not just gnawing on controllers to impress boys.
You don't know if her intentions are "fake" or not. Your just assuming. Do you live with her? Do you monitor her movements 24/7? Can you read her mind?
Your comment lacks what 90% of every comment made on N4G lacks...evidence.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying Naiomi Kyle is the most attractive woman ever or that she doesn't seem a bit awkward in the Daily Fix (it's mostly the script that makes it sound awkward I think). I'm just saying that it's a bit ridiculous to claim that someone is a fake gamer girl because they are fairly attractive and have a job on a big gaming site. Sure, maybe she is a gamer girl, but at least she isn't constantly shouting it from the rooftops and saying stuff like "LOLZ, me so n33rdy". That is the difference between gamer girls and fake gamer girls, the whole "outspoken factor". (Sorry if I sound like I'm ranting a bit, I'm exhausted, about to go to bed).
***"Your comment lacks what 90% of every comment made on N4G lacks...evidence."***
Where is your evidence that 90% of every comment on N4G lacks evidence? Or is your lack of evidence that 90% of every comment on N4G lacks evidence, is evidence that 90% of every comment on N4G lacks evidence?

I agree about the fact that one cannot declare someone to be fake without actually having a conversation with them about the subject the at hand. Their responses will let you know the real deal.
Most Gamer girls remain elusive and for good reasons, they know how to play the game, both literally and socially. They don't exist to get away from delinquents and they understand their unfortunate position in the industry in the eyes of the more idiotic male fanbase.
A female that does anything for attention as a gamer, 'Attention stunts' or as parkerpeters brilliantly compared it to that of a fashion statement.....they just aren't 'Gamers'. People sometimes have easier access to Fakedars as others do to Gaydars. Sorry you're not one of them LOGICWINS.
It's definitely not as niche as it was in the 80's or 90's, but yeah, I agree. The people faking it are likely the same who openly mock gaming culture the moment they stop exploiting it to pay the bills.
i love them because there gorgeous, yeah im shallow so what.
in all seriousness, i cant see how anyone can like fake gamer girls or fake youtube gamers for that matter, its kind of an insult actually, its just basic posering, and the whole licking controllers thing or saying oh i love angry birds, mario, tetris, or call of duty you know the basic mainstream games, to make you seem like a hardcore gamer just shows how they really arent gamers, now someone like janina gavankar i truly believe is a gamer, and not these typical posers.
Now, I'm going to have to disagree with you, because I think it is deeper than that. If someone plays tetris or whatever casually, then that is fine, they are a casual gamer who really doesn't need to be considered a hardcore gamer. But there are men and women out there who play things like Tetris, Zelda, Mario and stuff like that very seriously. Call of Duty kiddies, and people like that are "seasonal gamers" as in they only play seasonal titles. I would consider them casual gamers as well. It is the people who really play nothing at all, but maybe pokemon, or zelda, or portal sparatically, and then get tattoos, go to cons, and act like they are hardcore... those are the "fake gamers" the ones that use gameboys and xbox controllers for nothing but props in photos to show how "retro geek" they are.
You need to PLAY a game to be a gamer. More than once too.
my main poit wasnt the fact that people that play those games arent gamers, but its mainly the fact that whenever a celebrity is asked are you a gamer, those are seriously the only ones that come up not one time have i heard them say oh i play zelda, tomb raider, infamous, devil may cry,uncharted,gta,etc...its always the mainstream stuff, but when someone ask a mid level celebrity that bactually games they say stuff like assassians creed,gta,uncharted,etc...
Is it possible that your taking this gaming hierarchy thing a bit too seriously?
"in all seriousness, i cant see how anyone can like fake gamer girls or fake youtube gamers for that matter, its kind of an insult actually"
If a girl who likes me pretends to like gaming in order to get me to like her(has happened to me before), why would that insult me? The fact that she would go that far to impress me is a good thing in my book.
The fact that these girls would go out of their way to pretend that they enjoy gaming, something that used to be viewed as a "waste of time" by mainstream America, says a lot about how far the industry has come.
"No, it just says that if someone plasters attractive girls around the topic of gaming, it acts as bait for the average gamer."
And how many average gamers do you see complaining? I mean, if girls aren't your thing, then thats cool. My brothers gay and I love him to death. But for straight guys who are into girls, I don't see what the problem is. Attractive female models plastered onto any product as bait isn't an idea limited to gaming, and from my understanding has never "hurt" anyone.
Sex sells. If Sony used two half naked attractive models to carry out a Vita redesign to Kaz on the 20th...I'm willing to bet that Sony's core gamer demographic wouldn't be bothered by it.
actually all it says is, hey this is my chance to make a quick buck by contributing to a publicity stunt, even though i could care less about this activity.
^^Correct..whats wrong with that? Thats called hustling in my book. Everyone(EVERYONE) does things they don't want to do to get ahead in life, whether it be going to college, working a crap job...or pretending that you like something when you really don't.
If someone paid you 100k to model Justin Bieber's new clothing label for an hour...would you say no?
You're not fooling anyone with your "gay brother" story to attempt to mask your insinuation that I'm a homosexual being meant as an attack to discredit me. Don't give me that politician BS.
You don't have to be gay to not need sexy women in every part of your life. Crazy thing....I don't play games for women. I don't like being treated like a fish to bait as a hormone-raging man-child to a woman in her underpants (that happens to be holding a controller).
The fact that people seem to think that these girls are so prolific within our culture that they are destroying it from within is the real problem.
They exist, sure, but seriously, how are they possibly ruining everything by making us all look like idiots? If anything they have a desperate need for attention, and they are using games for that attention. There are many things in this world that receive this treatment by both sexes, so I don't really understand why it's such a big deal in the gaming community.
Ignore them and move on. If people want to glorify them, then that's really on them. All these stupid articles about it are only bringing them more attention, so what's the point. Seriously, if people give a girl more attention in this community because she's a girl, then it's likely they have very little to do with me, because I often find it easier to like or dislike people based on their general personality. Never once have I based my perception on another person on what kind of games they played, or even if they played games at all.
I don't see what the big deal is. Who cares if people use games to get attention? Just ignore it and move on. It's not hurting anyone.
This is just another attempt by gamers to be elitist by classifying people into these gaming groups(hardcore, casual, COD kiddies) so that they can feel superior.
I will be the first to say that fake gamer girls are the worst, but let's not start labeling all girl gamers as fake, OK? Still, the blatantly obvious ones... have at em'.
Real gamers play zelda, portal, elder's scrolls and pokemon? what I consider myself a gamer and I don't play any of that.I play God of War, Uncharted, MGS, Resistance, Call of Duty, Gran Turismo, Infamous and a lot more.
yeah lol i called to ask if they had nino kuni and she didn't even know what the flying fuck i was talking about and said they didn't have it, when i went there they actually did but she didn't even bother to look..women
To be fair, I've had guys at GameStop that have never heard of a game that I wanted as well.
The two women at my local gamestop I would consider to be pretty hardcore gamers. The older one, who's the manager, is well versed in all the consoles and knows what exists and what is coming out, and what recommendations to make to customers. The younger one, probably 18-20yo could run circles around most self-proclaimed "gamers" with her knowledge of games, developers, history of gaming, and the industry itself.
You don't need to know a lot about video games, it's history or even what games are out. You don't need to play specific games or whatever. That is just segregation made up by immature people.
If you spend significant amount of time playing a "lot" of games preferably for enjoyment, you are a gamer, period!
I find it ridiculous that people make up these labels to signify different types of gamers, when nobody really agrees on what those labels are.
These articles are stupid and only serves to show how immature gamers still are, but then again it is *just* people! :D
Well snow...if I was talking to you then I would have replied to you or said your name in my post. I was referring to the original poster, who was categorizing all women as clueless about games, hence, sexist, particularly since that typical conversation is highly unlikely to be true and meant presented in a derogatory fashion, hence, douchey.
@nuke
I agree that no one can agree. Even the definition of hardcore, core, or casual is truly defined and varies by great degrees around the net.
To me if someone plays a game and enjoys it, no matter what it is, then I would call them a gamer. Some of the titles listed above are easier to specify a point without spelling it out, which is why I use them from time to time.
Segregating gamers even further into age, sex, race classes is just too much, and totally unnecessary.
I don't think that's a case isolated to women only.
It's more to do with businesses hiring those not interested in the products being sold/spoken about. Happens quite a bit in the UK. I remember when a newspaper printed that Uncharted 2 was coming on Xbox.
This is Gamestop in general. I applied there, put all kinds of knowledge about games on my application, the guy talked to me and said "we just simply have someone with retail/sales experience, sorry"
I go in the store later, the dude they hired is totally clueless about everything with video games..... Couldn't tell you anything that didn't revolve around Call of Duty....
There was another gamestop that had a female worker, coolest Gamestop employee I've ever met. Knew more about video games than I did! And played all the consoles, and not once had a bias conversation about how great Xbox is.
There aren't enough gamer girls in this world. In my school if you dont play football, drink beer or do drugs your chances of getting a girlfriend are slim to NONE. It really is quite depressing and at school I dont even act like this hardcore nerd who has a passion for games, films, and tv but event then they're all like "You dont party all day every day so GTFO"..*sigh*
It's okay just think of it this way: All the people that make fun of you for not partying and doing drugs, are the same people that will be cleaning the toilets in your company.
any girl faking to be something they are not for attention is a whore in process in general so lets just get that out the way. stupid fashion hipsters.
I know how the setup works. First they play Black Ops on Xbox then when someone calls them out on it they switch to PC and play stuff like Dota, Portal, Guild Wars, XCOM, Dishonored, etc. then they go "now I'm a real hardcore gamer girl"
Why? I don't respect casual angry birds fans as actual gamers, I won't respect posers either.
It wasn't that long ago when we were made fun of for playing games. Suddenly we are the "cool kids" and instead of posing naked in a sports jersey, its naked with a controller in front of them.
Nothing wrong with looking at sluts, but beyond that they are just posers begging for attention. If you are attractive or have a good personality, that attention comes naturally.
Ever try to talk to a wannabe gamer girl? "oh I play games isn't that sexy?!" Really, what do you play "Oh I love COD and I will repeat phrases you scream while playing, like CAMPER! thats when someone hides in a tent right? Wanna play mario? I love sonic, wanna go get his new game?!" do you like Metal Gear? "What? I don't really like cars.... wanna see me pose next to a controller and pretend to play it? "
The only game I've heard females mention when I was in school was.. yes, you guessed it. Call of Duty.
Each time a new one comes out, they would claim they'll be getting it/playing it. However, if you tried to talk on that level (not even in depth) you'd probably get laughed at. Or bullied, to a degree.
I stopped paying attention to those type of 'women' a long time ago.
The hipster but still fake gamer girls buy insanely expensive gaming PCs and play crap (literally, these games aren't that great) such as Guild Wars, Dota, League, Portal, Dishonored, some RTS, and some Indy. These kind want to stay away from Nintendo because it's not considered cool.
This artical claims we don't have a name for men who are the same. That's a lie. The name is 'filthy casual.' There is no excuse for anyone to play CoD and CoD only. As a gamer if you know someone who only plays CoD, it is your duty, to shift them from filthy casual into respectable gamer.
And anyone who believe that shit must be a 15 yr old 1st generation noob.
Gaming only became mainstream popular in the last 10 or 20 yrs, prior to that nerds were constantly picked on or harassed for their hobby choice. Go watch revenge of the nerds, that is kinda the way gamers/nerds were treated/viewed by mainstream society for the last 20 yrs.
"why gamers have to accept all types of gamers into our culture." The knights of gaming, jesus talk about egotistical, nope between the eye rolling white knight title and the website name. I have read enough bs already.
We have 1 criteria you are actually a gamer, before you can be accepted, you have to be passionate about games. If you ain't got that you ain't a gamer, a controller in your hand doesn't mean shit.
It's the same with any other nerdy hobby.
Sorry some of us were nerds/gamers before it became the newest popular fashion/social fad. Before sports games and fps games exploded in popularity.
I really fear the affect of these so called gaming girls.
What I hate most is when they demand that gamer communities and companies adhere to their senses and what is right and what is wrong.
Example: They think the fighting community is offensive to women and started a whole new drama regarding this. Newsflash You are the new comers, you have to adjust, not the other way around!
In reaction to the image at the top of the article: So, just because someone plays Skyrim or Assassin's Creed they aren't real gamers? You think that Pokemon, Zelda, and Portal are the only ways to be considered a gamer? That's just stupid. I am so sick of some people calling what they consider mainstream to be "crap". I play Skyrim and Assassin's Creed, but also Portal, Pokemon, and Legend of Zelda. So what's the conclusion there in this person's lack of logic?
In reaction to the article: I agree. Regardless of what you play and for how long you play, you are a gamer. Regardless of the knowledge, not everyone will know as much as the other gamer to his/her left would know. There are many things I don't know about games, but there are many things I do know. I've been gaming since the Sega Genesis and classic days of going to the arcade. I am a gamer and proud of it.
Your comment lacks what 90% of every comment made on N4G lacks...evidence.
Ign should put a REAL gamer girl to host that segment.
Naomi Kyle = the definition of "fake girl gamer"
And not very attractive either as all the virgins on ign make her out to be.
Silly kids and their low standards for women lol
Where is your evidence that 90% of every comment on N4G lacks evidence? Or is your lack of evidence that 90% of every comment on N4G lacks evidence, is evidence that 90% of every comment on N4G lacks evidence?

At the same time, it's marketing, so it does go both ways (like a lot of the girls probably do), but that's not the point.
What if we made fun of their passion? That shit wouldn't fly and there would be an outrage. Double-standards.
*Average gamestop conversation*
"Can I preorder Ni No Kuni"
"so....u want the new cod?"
"no...ni no kuni"
".....do u even lift?"
