Reactions to a Console Rumor Explain Why We’re Not Really Buying It

Kotaku: "The rumor going around earlier this week wasn't really anything new. The console that locks out used games is an anticonsumer bogeyman going back years and though the technology to do it exists, it's yet to come true, for whatever reason. Still, a report this week repeated the same year old rumor about the next Xbox and the reaction from many was angry, indignant, and justified. 'F*** that. I'm not buying.'

To me, it also sounded a little relieved." (Culture, Next-Gen)

I wouldn't worry about this.

Media First made up the rumor about PS4 figuring they could get massive amount of hits. Then they made up rumors about the 720, both attempts were mostly ignored other than sony fans defending Sony when the rumor was about PS4 and attacking when the rumor was about 720

And finally it cought on that it was upsetting/setting off trolls and worrying some gamers and turning them off so anti MSFT media and other hatful Sony supporters started heavily spreading the rumor. Even main stream game media wanted in on the action. All this in the hopes of other fanboys would attack/troll/spread lies/smear(basically the same thing that happend in the start of this generation)

Link or I call bs,most didn't think this was out of the norm for Ms because they ditch their core base so they could strike the same success as nintendo and rumors that Sony was going to block used games went as fas back when the ps3 was announced.

Funny how I don't see people calling out your "the media did it" comments lol. I really wonder why.

I don't call it rumors when companies patent things to do something. You can speculate whether or not they actually use it. But we know the technology has been made.

The thing is, we WILL buy it if this stuff isn't there. They probably won't "announce it" but the first batch of people that buy a game and can't buy used games will throw a HUGE fit and decline a lot of sales.

My uncle said these rumors were false

Would you have bought a ps3 knowing about online passes?
talisker  +   128d ago
Yes, I would. I don't play many games online and those do I buy day 1 anyway.

Besides, online passes are not exclusive to PS3.

People adopted, and you will adopt to NO used games, you would find a excuse.

think adapted is better use of words then adopted too accept change
