J.P. Corbran: ''As if the future was too bright for Nintendo’s new console, we learned this week that Ubisoft delayed Rayman Legends, its seemingly high-quality, Wii U-exclusive platformer, seven months to port it to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Judging by the reaction on our own forums and across the Internet, this was a punch to the gut for Wii U owners, and for Nintendo itself.
We’ll likely never know the events that led to this decision, the internal thinking at Ubisoft, or how much Nintendo knew and when. All we know is that the Wii U’s already weak first quarter just got a lot weaker, and there doesn’t seem to be anything Nintendo could have done about it.''
For those who are getting what they want out of Nintendo it's a good thing.
Nintendo has shown, this generation more than ever, has shown complete and utter ignorance.
Right now people care more about CoD so everyone tries to make the games similar to that RE, MoH, ect all tried to take a page from CoD.
Nintendo doesn't care what the popular trend is they just make games they think their fans will like.
Nintendo knows what they are doing.
While everybody else worries about what is "hot " and actually listens to their idiot shareholders, Nintendo just does what they do....quality
Couldn't have said it better myself!
they only reason the wii got by without third party support was because of a casual motion control craze. and even though it sold more units, it was still the least played console of last generation.
there is NO casual craze, this time around, and that is why the wii u sales have flat-lined and there is zero demand for the console. and even if new SSB and zelda games sell millions of consoles, you are still only going to be looking at sub 30 million lifetime sales.
Other than that, I agree with the article.
Nintendo will not get the noticeable third-party support it wants because even if Nintendo did get it, it wouldn't make a difference. Any multi-plat thrid party game that would come to the wiiu it would be over-shadowed by Nintendo's own first party games. Think about it, would you buy a wii u for CoD, would you buy it because it has Assassin's Creed 3, would you buy it for Mass Effect 3. No you would buy a wiiu for the new hd Zelda for Mario, Metroid, Star Fox, etc. And God knows if any third party dev would ever consider making a wiiu exclusive game unless it's selling like hotcakes. Point is instead of trying to seduce people who don't care about you because you have no sales how about doing everything in your power to get those sales including first party games and indie games too.
When nintendo lost square to playstation almost 20 yrs ago they were left in a really bad position, no final fantasy, no dragon quest, that was the hardest time for nintendo home consoles, but they survived and when they released DS money-printer machine square-enix came like a small dog, wagging the tail and hoping to be forgiven. Nintendo accept them back and sony fans still dream about Dragon Quest IX and X on their platforms.
My point is, ubisoft can turn their back to nintendo now. They are making money, AC is a best-seller, watch dogs one of the most expected games; maybe they are just feeling they are too powerful, powerful enough to make the business the way they want to. For sure nintendo will not forget (the japanese never do) this and if wii u sales explodes UBISOFT will regret this delay choice forever.
No matter if you are a ninty/sony/MS fan, these BIG 3 have power enough to move the market and any third party should be smart enough to respect at least the contract they have with them.
