What People Used To Say About The Sega Dreamcast

András Neltz: ''Today, we've got Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony vying for control of the console market. But there was a time when Sega was also a contender. Their last home console, the Dreamcast, is still getting games (sort of) despite being fourteen years old. But what was it about the Dreamcast that inspired such devotion? Let's take a look.'' (Culture, Dreamcast)

I don't mind the idea of compiling from an archive of interesting quotes, to see how the hype and tech was viewed in hindsight. Problem is that the quotes used, borderline useless.

dreamcast....ahh such a good system
in fact, over the last month i have been going crazy on ebay for dreamcast lots. I have over 50 individual games now and a few dupes. Many of which i never played when they were new.

Every game is fun in its own way. I have been hooked on fighters especially after picking up the DC fighting stick from agetec.

Some of the more notable games that never were...half life and propeller arena were both examples of completed games but got canceled right before their release. Half life went to the PS2 and propeller arena, that was canceled out of respect for 9/11.

I think enough time has passed to where (at least) that game can come out for PSN or XBLA. It is a fun air combat game. In the independent scene, games like last hope and the newly resurrected geist force breath new life into the old system.

no joke, my Dreamcast actually sits right next to the desktop PC I am using to type this comment out. Dammit if only SEGA would've stuck around for longer. Oh well, I'm gonna go play Soul Calibur now.

i really did not like the dreamcast. in my personal opinion, it lacked in games and innovation.

Are you serious? Dreamcast is probably the most underrated console ever. It has the best fight and arcade games.
Baka-akaB  +   1024d ago
No other console launched with such a wealth of game and with most of their flagship titles .

Not innovative??

It was the first console to ship with online capabilities; even allowing you to do video calls online if you imported a camera. (People are still online even to this day)

It was also the first console allowing you to use keyboard and mouse and still has more games that supported it than the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined.

The VMU was amazing for the time, not only could you mini games on it, but connecting it back to the Dreamcast would help you in game. Not only that but it was used a second screen, with some games taking advantage of it much like the Wii U

Also the Dreamcast helped influence the Xbox, the similarities are everywhere.

dreamcast had awesome games in the short time it was around. I had some like soul caliber, dead or alive 2, sonic adventure, House of the dead 2 wiht gun, NFL 2K1(online game), NHL 2k, crazy taxi, Shenmu, Resident evil CV, power stone, Jet set radio, gutz rage, MDK 2, MSR, and others I cant remember. It even had better versions of ps1/n64 games like soul reaver, tony hawk 1/2, RE 2/3, and hydro thunder and I had some of those too.

I also had a ps1 and N64 and I noticed that I bought alot of games in the short time DC was around. I got a ps2 when it came out and the DC was pretty much done already and also bought tons of games for my ps2 in the first 2 years.
