Gearbox Software Revives Aliens Franchise With Unreal Engine 3

While 20th Century Fox has gone back to the origins of Alien with Prometheus, the studio is allowing the game industry to dive further into the Aliens mythology with a new shooter. Sega and Gearbox Software have worked with Fox, as well as creatives like Syd Mead, to bring a sequel to Aliens to PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U. Aliens: Colonial Marines, brings the world that filmmakers like Ridley Scott, James Cameron and David Fincher helped mold to the interactive realm using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3. (Aliens: Colonial Marines, Gearbox Software, PC, PS3, Sega, Wii U, Xbox 360)

And the Wii U version release date is??? Here we go again.... indefinite release date normally leads to cancelation.
Skate-AK  +   433d ago
At this point they wouldn't cancel it.

You willing on betting your life saving on that. I put nothing past western 3rd party developers when Microsoft and the long reach of their wallet is involved. Look whats happening now with RayMan Legends. That is the most blatant buyout I have ever seen to date.

All these delays lately make me have my doubts about the Wii U version coming anytime soon if ever :[

I still love AVP2

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, i saw unreal engine and fell asleep.

Lol. I did the opposite and spat out my hot drink. Hopefully the trademark grainy character models aren't in place. Few devs have actually used the UE effectively. Most look very same-y.

Its better the the Quake engine that cod is still based off:)

The engine looks very good for it's age, very good. Yes it does lack the shaders that a lot of games have, but the lighting looks fantastic.

One thing I must say, I hope they make the aliens a little bit more organic and not as "boxy".

This is one of the reasons I'm not buying the game. Unreal engine is crap if its not in the hands of epic. Every game i played that uses the unreal engine sounds like a ss.

really?
these games says otherwie:

1.Mirror's Edge
2.Bioshock: infinite
3.Batman, asylum and AC
4.Bulletstorm
5.Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
6.Bioshock 1 and 2 (best graphics when it was released)
TheyDontLoveYou  +   433d ago
All of those games you've mentioned are plagued with texture pop in, bad audio, terrible animation.
Skate-AK  +   433d ago
Where did you get your time machine to know that Bioshock: infinite has the problems you named?

It's going to be oozing with bloom effects.

I've seen 'Aliens CM' up and running on the 360.. this game is going to get terrible reviews.. the gfx are shockingly bad/dated for this late into a console cycle.. jaggies and screen tearing, brick dead AI.. some of the dialogue of the marines is funny but the overall story won't draw you in.

Shame too, considering the material..

Ha ha the game looks good damn people are so picky these days its fuckin sad
DrRichtofen  +   433d ago
I think this games graphics look pretty game dang good. But it'd look really sick if it were on the Frostbite 2 engine or CryEngine 3.
Pintheshadows  +   433d ago
Even if it reviews badly i'll try it as i'm always looking to be 'state of the badass art'.

Whilst I tend to feel that unreal engine 3 is better suited to 3rd person games, I could care less what engine this games running on. It's aliens, it's gearbox, I get to play as a marine, and it was made for people like me who were obsessed with the film when we were kids. My preorder got despatched today, let me at it. And somebody wake up hicks...

Another example of the Unreal Engine magnificence is Aliens: CM. That game looks like ass for a game that's coming out 2013. Thanks to that engine, A:CM is going to average 5.0 to 7.0.

Looks good to me-
- but what do I know I own a Wii.

But I'm thankful that I do,
-because I would not want to be a person who does not think these are good graphics.
If I thought that way, just think of all the good games I would miss-out on... Sad.

Batman Series
Gears of War
Mass Effect Series

Are some great example of Unreal Engine put to good use.

It all comes down to how the tool is used and the minds behind it.

Scroll down to see Unreal Engine 3 games.

Getting this on tuesday, Not really swayed by the bad press (user reviews) so far, either way I can't cancel my preorder now I'm thinking the multiplayer will be its strongest point but I'll have to wait and see
