Pocket Gamer's handheld editor Peter Willington believes the commonly held belief that the PS Vita is circling the drain is just a myth. Here's why he's still rooting for the handheld.
It's been out less than one year and calls for its death have rung nonstop in the media.
This won't stop Sony supporting the device and gamers from buying it at a slow but steady pace. Sales will pick up with price drops, as they always do,and Vita will go on to sell as much as PSP, if not more.
I'm with Peter, well said.
The Wii U's been out less than 6 months and that's gotten pretty much as many doom articles... People love to speculate especially when it's the death of competitive hardware, but honestly the Vita could be doing a heck of a lot better anyone can tell you that, it's not beyond salvageable though and if Sony take the proper steps needed and present more appealing and "original" IP's 3rd party or otherwise, I imagine the sales of the Vita would greatly improve.
Who said anything about Wii U?
He loves Nintendo a lot. I have a Wii U and a Vita and I play my Vita more th *gets shot in the head*.
@GalacticEmpire Im using the Wii U as an example is that somehow taboo now? Im trying to get across that even though people spout so much nonsense about the doom of Vita (and the Wii U) they are both doing fine and aren't going anywhere. I swear you cant have an intelligent conversation on this damn site anymore without someone labelling you a "hater" or a "fanboy" @TongkatAli I don't love Nintendo or any of the major publishers, Im a consumer who buys what they like unchained by make believe allegiances. If you hate Nintendo that's fine, but It's kind of childish hating a company that isn't even trying to appeal or cater to you.
"Im using the Wii U as an example is that somehow taboo now?"
No but it's kinda off topic and not really a reply to anything I said in my comment. The doom articles for Wii U are just not relevant here.
@GalacticEmpire You "It's been out less than one year and calls for its death have rung nonstop in the media." Me "The Wii U's been out less than 6 months and that's gotten pretty much as many doom articles... " Do you see the connection now?...or Is it still "off topic" the topic being products getting too many unjustified doom articles...
I hate the media... The Vita is dying, the wii-u is dying, the ps4 needs to do (insert feature here) different, the 720 will be online 24/7, the ps3 fails in america, blah blah blahhhh... And they deliver this shit with such uncertanty and exaggerate so much. I'm thinking of buying a Vita soon. I am looking forward to it. Just not sure if I really need it.
It's probably not a (need), but it sure as hell is a wise buy lol. I love mine more than any handheld I've ever owned. (Considering I've owned almost every one since the original brick of a GameBoy) Got the Vita day one, and it still impresses me.
They've already sold like 5 million of the things, so its hardly "dead". And none of the heavy hitters or a price drop have spurred demand yet. Still, they need to fix the memory card issue. Flash memory is cheap these days and it should be included in every unit.
I only disagree with that last part. Internal memory- and a non-proprietary format- are huge parts of the reason why the PSP saw so much software piracy. By this time in its life, you could get just about any PSP game without having to pay for it. For now, at least, Sony's avoided that with the Vita. It's come at a higher cost to us consumers, but I'll pay it to stave off something like piracy. Now, if you're talking about including a memory card, I can get down with that.
Flash memory is flash memory. I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Sony just encrypted the Vita's, that doesn't inherently the raise price. 8GB of flash memory is like $15 to $20 retail, cheaper when bought by a manufacturer. Edit: l'm not talking about opening up the market to 3rd party memory sticks, just adding more with the base unit.
Only takes a person with common sense to figure that out. Same goes for the Wii U and all it's doom articles that have been popping up. They will all be fine maybe they won't do as good as they did back in the gaming heydays but they will be fine nonetheless.
doom articles, doom articles everywhere.
Doom on the vita. I'm in.
In what? I'm confused... In with the death of Vita? If so, you my friend are not a gamer. A real gamer would not wish death on any console/handheld. They all play games, so they should all be accepted by those of us who truly enjoy the medium of gaming. Also, side note here... The Vita is doing fine in sales at the moment, and it's going to really pick up this year based on the Japanese consumers saying they planned on buying them this year.
He is talking about the game "Doom". Derr. Learn your game history lol.
@oONinjavitiSOo - Was that a part of the article? I must have missed it, my bad haha.
