Why are video game successors dominating the market? PCG takes a look back, at the current generation and in the future. (Dev, Industry, Next-Gen, PC, PS3, Retro, Wii, Xbox 360)

Becouse devs fear losing money by innovating instead of taking risks with new ideas that may fail. It's commom sense. But I don't agree with that attitude, just so you know.

If you spend $100,000,000 on a game engine you would release sequels as well to maximize pay-off on the investment.

It has less to do with fear and more to do with sunk costs and brand recognition.
