Live-action web series The Last of Us: What Remains incoming, ties with Sony/Naughty Dog unknown

A live-action webseries based on the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive The Last of Us is in the works. The show carries the title The Last of Us: What Remains and focuses on a number of unfamiliar characters. It is not yet clear whether the project is being officially handled by Sony, the publisher of the game. On the website of the project no logos of Sony, or developer Naughty Dog can be found. Yet the website reports that "the series is intended to be used as a marketing campaign by Naughty Dog to increase sales and awareness for the game title".

A trailer for the series, as well as various photographs of the characters and some of the enemies can be found on the website.

So this is why Neil druckman Tweeted these:

Neil Druckmann [email protected]_Druckmann
"Alright... done writing for today. Can't wait to see a bunch of our actors for one of the last VO sessions tomorrow."

He also said he "wanted great actors not celebrities" to play their part for this promo movie he wrote the story for.

So its confirmed.

Here is the sites description

What Remains is an epic live action series produced by Manifest Film, based on the upcoming video game title, "The Last of Us" by Naughty Dog. The series is intended to be used as both a marketing campaign by Naughty Dog to increase sales and awareness for the game title, as well as a unique piece of content chronicling the journey of three unlikely friends as they attempt to survive in a world 10 years after a new strain of fungus as all but wiped out the human race.

This series asks the question: "What does it mean to be human when humanity's time has passed?"

I thought it was just a fan project, but its seems like ND is backing them on this too

Sony will be stupid to cut ties with Naughty Dog..sony offer them more money and let them release more awesome jaw dropping games

dafegamer1326d ago

what? Sony owns naughty dog dude

Jobesy1326d ago (Edited 1326d ago )

You read the headline wrong. Next time keep on reading. Like dafegamer stated, Sony owns ND, and ND is one of Sony's bread and butter studios. They have great respect for one another.

Reading comprehension ftw...

uhh it would help if the article was in English!

Yeah no need to be a d**k Jobsey. I understand now why you only have one bubb.

And of course Sony/ND is involved with this project, otherwise they'll be getting a visit from the lawyers/ninjas squad pretty soon.

Dude its cool, i had to read the title twice also but i thought Sony owns them. Thats when i knew how they meant it. They should have word it differently.

Game0N1326d ago

That is not what the article is reporting. READ CAREFULLY. It's talking about how the web series doesn't seem to have any apparent ties to Sony or ND, in other words it could just be a fan project.

Wouldn't be surprised if they actually make a movie out of it. I'll definitely get into the series though.

dafegamer1326d ago

cut ties? Sony owns naughty dog, they doesnt have a contract at all. Seriously silly articles these days

izumo_lee1326d ago

I believe the article is wondering if this Last of Us live action series has anything to do with Sony or Naughty Dog which explains the 'ties with Sony/Naughty Dog unknown' title.

It probably is connected to Sony/Naughty Dog but until it is confirmed it is speculation at best. Nowhere in the article does it mention Sony cutting ties with Naughty Dog.

wquach1326d ago

Um...why would they ever cut ties with Naughty Dog when Uncharted has been one of the most successful new IPs this generation, on top of the buzz The Last of Us is getting, along with the fact that they *own* the company since 2001? That's like Sony cutting off their right arm.
