PS4: What Sony needs to win next-gen

Columnist Chris Morris looks at opportunities and potential pitfalls for Sony in the upcoming console battle (Industry, PS4, Sony)

remanutd55  +   103d ago
I could care less if sony wins, losses, draws next gen, i care about them giving me a next gen playstation experience, thats what im expecting to get and thats all i care about, im hoping to get the same or an even better entertainment experience that i have got with my ps3 for the past 6 years, thanks.

oh and Evolution Studios better stop playing with me and release Motorstorm as ps4 launch title.
hellvaguy  +   103d ago
Ps3 owners=Ps4 owners. 360 owners=720 owners.

Let's not try and hide these facts under the guise of "if they do this or that" type falicies.
fluffydelusions  +   103d ago
I dunno. I've seen lots of surveys state current 360 owners will move to PS4 due to a) exclusives, b) kinect priority, c) xbox live gold. Take it as you will of course
Dylila  +   103d ago
sony only needs to be sony and do what theyve been doing with the playstation every generation.

"I could care less if sony wins"

So you do care or did you mean,

couldn't care less?

Agreed.
There is nothing wrong for Sony PS4 to succeed and the word "win" is relative.

Its another immature article headline.

Why do this American article writers promote this console wars so much? Its messing up people's sanity and taking away what matters most - playing games.

The kind and quality of PlayStation exclusive games are the things gamers are after not console wars.

PlayStation gamers not play or platinum sales figures....you know.

Sony's 16 years of experience knows what core gaming community wanted, wants now and would want in the future.

What is the benefit if they move 200 million units out of crappy casual or kiddie games?

That is not Sony PlayStation's game.

Sony needs to succeed at their own game, goals, objectives, and vision. That is trust worthy enough

That's all everyone should care about, but it seems people like to use this immature term winning this and that like it matters. The snes/genesis area was never like this, and it make me glad i didn't grow up in this embarrassing period in time.
hellvaguy  +   103d ago
First off, the internet was either non-existent or irrelevant during the snes era. Hence u wouldnt have been reading anything. Secondly, people always have nostalgia & "remember" the past as being better.

For me at least, all those great and fun nes games from the 80s are unplayable after about 10 minutes of dying every 30-45 seconds. Im looking at u ghosts and ghouls.
KarmicDemon  +   103d ago
Sony just needs to keep on making good exclusives and support independant developers and they'll win me, at least.
Gamer39  +   103d ago
1.,Many AAA exklusive games.
2.,No high priced.
3.,No "always online, no second hand game" concept.
MultiConsoleGamer  +   103d ago
No one is going to win next gen.
RTheRebel  +   103d ago
ADVERTISE!!!!!
hennessey86  +   103d ago
Why does it have to be a competition. Both Sony and Microsoft can co exist and I will be buying both next gen consoles without a doubt.
Dread  +   103d ago
best comment so far.

Agreed!

"Win next gen"? I never got this, there is no "winning" a generation IMO. Other than the ps2 ( the only one consider won bc it was just plain amazing) every console is going to be viewed differently to an individual. I could make a book thousands of pages long for the wii, ps3, and Xbox for how they all "won" this generation. This article is about how the ps4 can be the best product possible, not for how it can "win"
Kevlar009  +   103d ago
If your company lives to the next Generation, does it really matter who wins? Gamecube lost its Gen, yet we have the WiiU, 2 generations later (or is it one, people confuse me).

Long live the games

Agreed, but Sony's gaming division has been losing millions for a couple years now. Hopefully the PS4 can streamline development costs and we can see Sony return to profit.

Sony needs multiple breakout hits. I mean 6 million + sold of multiple first party exclusives. I think if Sony plays their cards right. Uncharted, God of War, and GT could be those games.

Gaming division has been making money since 2010.
It's the other divisions that are losing money. IE TV's.
Theyellowflash30  +   103d ago
Here is this one which shows they were losing money in 2010
http://www.vg247.com/2009/1...

And here is another one that shows they were losing money in 2012
http://www.gameinformer.com...

And both of these are gaming divisions

besides a Miracle?
Bar_Brothers  +   103d ago
im buying both
both will have amazing flawless exclusives
black911  +   103d ago
PS3 beat the 360 easily. When you consider the 360 had a year head start and idiots rebuying bew cinsoles ecerytime they got RROD or a new SKU was released.
Edito  +   103d ago
Im seriously woried about the D-Pad of the new PS4 Controller cause im a huge fan of fighting games and i just can't play fighting games on 360 because of the D-Pad if they mess with that damn i will be very sad...
