IGN-Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Review

IGN:What’s perhaps most striking about playing a Sly Cooper game late in the PS3 generation is how it proves that the brand itself is still relevant, as is the mascot-based 3D platformer. While similar PlayStation series like Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank have either disappeared entirely or gone in new and strange directions respectively, the fourth Sly Cooper game is true to itself. The decision to remain true to what made Sly great in the first place is daring in an age where the 3D platformer can come off as a dinosaur. (PS Vita, PS3, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time) 8/10

Great game, but i found 1 thing funny:
" Ridiculous load times "
lol
3-4-5  +   437d ago
Load times on a Sony Product ? NEVER! lol

That is the main issue Sony can never seem to grasp or fix.

100% of people hate Load Times...

I feel like this is a pattern for PS3 exclusives late in the generation. 8/10. Not bad at all, but not great.

Well Ni No Kuni did great in reviews :)

Last of Us and GoW will almost certainly get really high scores. I bet Beyond will too.

"Last of Us and GoW will almost certainly get really high scores. I bet Beyond will too."

And all of a sudden, IGN will no longer be ignorant.
Root  +   437d ago
@LOGICWINS

It's not really their reviews that people call them for, it's the way they write them and what they are like in general.
cpayne93  +   437d ago
@Root no, its just about always the score. Everyone complains about the score, very few people actually complain about the writing style. They rate a ps3 exclusive too low, and fanboys scream that they are evil people getting paid off by MS. They give a game a high score though, and suddenly nobody is complaining. Not just singling out Sony fanboys btw, you see this across the board.

8 on the IGN scale = Great.

Plus I'd be willing to bet The Last Of Us, God of war ascension & beyond will be higher. The equivalent of God of war 2, Final fantasy 12 & Shadow of the colossus for the PS2 I reckon
TimeSkipLuffy  +   437d ago
better to have some exclusive games at 8 or higher than only one great title once in a while or nothing at all? XD
Good_Guy_Jamal  +   436d ago
Let's not make this a "thing" now.

>trusting IGN in the first place

I remember when 7/10 was a good score and 5/10 was an average.

"I remember when 7/10 was a good score and 5/10 was an average."

That never changed.

What has this industry become when an 8/10 is not a good score?

Pattern for PS3 exclusives late in the generation? Imo, within the next 6 months, you will witness 3/5 of probably the best rated games this gen in The Last of Us, God of War Ascension, and Beyond Two Souls. Those are exclusives.

The other 2 I believe will be Bioshock Infinite and of course, GTA V. And one of those will be better on PS3 (Bioshock)

To finalize, a 8/10 for a sequel REAL fans have wanted for a few years in Sly 4, developed by a relatively low key studio (Sanzaru), cross buy compatible, AND retailing @ $40 new is,or should be, A No brainer purchase.

ive played games that got lower than 8 and are fun , sly 3 got 8.1 and it was damn fun
Mainsqueeze  +   436d ago
I highly doubt that GOWA TLOU and BTS will have the same scores as GTA 4/5 or Bioshock 1/Infininite. Alot of sites will give them equally high scores but def not across the bored. But hey the only thing that matters is how much fun you have with them and not what the scores are.
JoGam  +   437d ago
So if a score 8 is not bad, what do you consider a Great score?
shivvy24  +   436d ago
ive played games that are fun but got lower than 8, just look at this for example : if you got 8/10 in a test thats a great score :D
HarryMasonHerpderp  +   437d ago
Well an 8/10 is considered "great" by IGN.
So what do you think of that?

Umm...isn't 8/10 considered "great"?
NeverEnding1989 said "8/10. Not bad at all, but not great."

Don't most sites consider an 8/10 "great"? Usually, it goes 7 is classified as "good", 8 "great", 9 "superb" and 10 is really quite remarkable.

Games that receive scores 8 and higher are usually few and far between.
princejb134  +   436d ago
8/10 is good for sites thats true
but in my personal opinion games that are 8/10 replay value are pretty small
and im the type of person that replay all my games at least twice, but if the game isnt that interesting, ill play ones and leave it collecting dust
FanMan  +   435d ago
funny that you say they are not great. considering the score of 8 on IGN is "Great". Its a great game just not amazing in IGNs opinion. It could be worse though. there could be no late exclusives like from microsoft or nintendo. Id rather have great games than few or no games.
ayabrea93  +   437d ago
looking forward to some good old fashioned platforming.

What annoys me most is the reviewers comments over at ign. I mean he says how the vita version is lacking in every way compared to the ps3 version. As a reviewer shouldnt he review it separately then. Like when pc comes out with the same game as consoles but they give separate reviews. Pc versions usually look better play better but I never hear them comparing consoles to pc. Why do this to the vita... not even the 3ds mario gets compared to the wii or wiiu's Version of mario. Its dumb to me ... not to say this score is wrong tho I pay no attention to scores its just the conments and comparisons that rub me the wrong way.
DOMination-  +   436d ago
The 3DS version of Mario isn't the same title as the Wii or WiiU games.

I guess he is just mentioning it because i for one assumed they would be identical. Isn't that supposed to be the point? Its hardly a taxing game on hardware so its disappointing to hear the Vita version is worse.
Kingthrash360  +   436d ago
Hardware specs mean nothing when you have memory restrictions. The ps3 version is huge 16.7 gigs... while the vita version is a mere 3.9 gigs... just do the math. They will never be identical, and they know this..its phenominal how close it is with this memory gap and should be praised for it....smh
