I think it's pretty good. It's not perfect by any means. There is a lot of stuff they could have added. But there is a lot of stuff that they got right too. I'd give it around an 8/10, though I can understand a few of the 7's it received
Lots of flaws that shouldn't have been made in the first place. Superbot was to reliant on 3rd party characters(bad choices for some) rather than using more playstation characters and adding an optional health meter, plus they definitely could have added more characters, for example instead of using 2 coles(good and evil cole) they could have used normal cole and enable him to transform into evil cole on level 2 or something, while having another character from the infamous universe like one of the two super chicks.... and it should have been more like powerstone, which would make it feel less crowded and more open.
I played the beta for a while and it just seemed like the screen was just too busy. Had trouble tracking your character, overpowered characters with ranged attacks were old school NES cheap attacks.
The game looked ok just notmy cup of tea, I never gotninto smash brothers either. Prefer my fighting games like mortal kombat/street fighter.
I like it... I wish there were more game modes, but other than that, I think it's pretty damn good. More characters and environments are coming too, so it has legs. Just hope Santa Monica keeps the support coming. You can get the PS3/PSV versions (both) for $40 on Amazon. For both versions, that's a pretty good price considering all the gameplay you get.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale its a failure on both vita and PS3 cause it sucks. I have it on vita and well the game its a ripped off super smash bors wanted be and failed hard. Metacritic sore low 70s and same in game rankings. I did npt like the game cause its innacurate, poor looks and made some of the most 1st party ip look like garbage. Its horrible and the reason why sony got rid of them.
You know that ssb is nothing new, thrill kill did 4 player combat before ssb,out foxies had dynamic battlefields and marvel vs capcom was the first to do character mash up.
i COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER, its true, i have it for ps3 and I doubt it the score until i check metacritic. I guess its a failure, but I like to play, althought now im bored of it.
Super Smash Bros Brawl scored in the mid 90's and sold over 10 million copies,
PSABR scored in the low mid 70's and hasnt even cracked a million
Don't shoot the messenger it is what it is , in comparison it is somewhat of a failure, but It still holds its own and I can definitely see the appeal, I like PS I consider myself a fan, but I found PSASBR to be, really really boring especially in comparison to other fighters on the market, I'm not trolling or anything again I can see the appeal of the game, if you enjoyed it fair enough ,it's just my honest opinion.
This video pretty much sums up my opinions of the game
I really don't think the game was a failure, but I don't think it was a complete success either.
Looking at the game you can see there wasn't a huge budget behind this, and if there was then it was sorely misused.
As far as the game itself it's solid. It's definitely a party game that a bit of a serious fighter, and it works. I had some major complaints but after playing it I can say it's a really fun game.
The failure was the complete lack of presentation and budget, but the success was the potential this game has laid down for a amazing sequel just like SUper Smash Bros. did for Melee.
It's a good game just not $60 good, unless you have a Vita as well, but even then it should have been $40, because it's not up to par with other PlayStation Exclusives.
The main reason it failed was because of advertising.
Which is the main reason most PS3 exclusives get lower sales.
I literally didn't even know PASBR was out until a month later when i happened to see a review. I didn't see a single advert, trailer, Poster or anything.
Sony quite simply don't advertise. It was the same for uncharted 3, If it wasn't for the fact i had preordered and was interested in the game i wouldn't know i was coming out because there was literally no advertisement what so ever in the uk.
Well I think in the video game industry we can call any big budget IP a failure if the sales don't meet their expectations. Sony was really banking on this game to be their Smash Bros... and results from a sales standpoint just didn't match up, even if the game is great.
Yea i know, It's like they were changing things up just to change them up. I don't see why they did, people where gonna compare it to ssb might as well implement one of the better things about it. @Neko_Mega I disagree it actually does take skill, it adds depth because you need to weaken the opponent first and then the person being flung must make use of aerial combat to attempt to survive. It's another element added onto the game.
Might want to look more into this game before saying they copy Smash Bros.
Yes they seem the same, but theirs more to it then that. Ringouts are pointless and show no skill an for someone playing it a first time. Ringouts are cheap.
P.S. Look on YouTube, they did a topic about it with people that love Smash Bros and they even said Playstation All Stars isn't the same.
@ yoda in ssb you only need to know your character pros and cons because you just need to get them close to the edge and camp so they can't make a effective counter attack.
@perjoss so getting a game for cheap is bad? You would think that is a good thing because you could get two good for the price of one.
Points 2 and 3 are agreeable but point 1, i gotta disagree. I dont get how confusing it is that only kills/knockouts is only attainable by using a super attack.
Also, IMO its not a failure considering it sold 0.52 million worldwide.
I would be extremely surprised if there is ever a sequal, Sony ended the partnership with the studio for a reason. All I can say is don't hold your breath.
I am sorry. It failed? It got above average scores and sold a lot more then most failed games have and people are still enjoying it and waiting for DLC.Not to mention Sony has handed it off to one of their best developers for future DLC plus Superbot managed to do what no one else ever could or dared to do and that is pull together a whole bunch of characters from several different games from different developers into a single one.Not even Nintendo could do that. How is that failed?
Wow.TWO whole characters. That must have taken FOREVER to get. Kudos to Nintendo for finding TWO characters that aren't even Nintendo and leaving out people like Mega Man, Firebrand,Simon and Maximo *applauds*. The must be exhausted from all that effort
But they exist thus proving your first comment a total lie based on assumptions. Which was my point. Oh btw Sonic and Solid snake both have been on nintendo platforms. They don't need the third parties as they actually used the roster they have.
@smash Are you really going to berate Nintendo for missing those characters when BattleRoyale is missing Crash and Spyro?
I'm not even sure if getting third-party characters like new Dante and BigDaddy is even worth bragging about. Felt more like an advertisement of future games rather than a battle of classic playstation characters.
It failed in amount of sales compared to money put in, time, and hype put in by us as gamers. That is kinda simple to see. Even many here who are pro Sony and this game are pointing out reasons why it failed. It may not have failed as a game that is enjoyable to play, but it failed on its expected cash retun , and.... Re-read the first sentence!
'Superbot managed to do what no one else ever could or dared to do and that is pull together a whole bunch of characters from several different games from different developers into a single one.'
Is that supposed to be some sort of innovative thing or what? Nintendo didn't need many third party characters because they have plenty of their own, Sony don't so they had to rope in someone elses.
The game did not live up to Sony's expectations. The game sold a fraction of what SSB sells and Sony was hoping that there was a similar market for the game on Sony's console. Unfortunately there isn't and there will most likely not be a sequal.
The game breaking problem with the game, is that your attacks don't matter, the supers do. it's the only way to win.
I certainly commend them for trying something different, but it didn't work for the best. when i played this with my friends, there was no sense of tension or anything when we were taking damage.
i really hope they change it in the sequel, and add more characters that playstation fans care about, like Crash, Spyro, Sora, and other characters from the ps1/ps2 era.
IMO it's the gameplay core mechanica of the special attack being the only thing that can kill. It kinda ruins the fun the game should have. There should be a kind of health/damage system where you would die when you take to many hits, and the special attacks would kills as well. Because when you fail a special attack, you lose, that's it. A game like this is not supposed to be that competitive and tactical, it's supposed to be more fun oriented. That's the only thing I didnt like about it. And I also think they could have more characters, even if they are from the same universe.
I guess it's just the first game, but with SSB competition everyone constantly compares All Stars to it....
whilst I enjoyed it, I can definitely tell why others might not. maybe a clean slate could be a good thing for the series if they want to carry on with it.
Forza Horizons comes to mind, it is a great great, but I was able to buy it new for $15. That is a sign that the game was selling poorly. It is going to be scary to develop games for the new consoles. I can foresee a company create one hell of a game and because it's sales don't live up to expectations, they have to shut down. To be honest, I'm kinda happy that the new consoles will be developer friendly, because I don't want any companies to fall under or employees to lose their jobs.
For me i believe it was the lack of 3rd party co-operation that led to PSAS to not be as successful as it should've been.
Over 15 years of Playstation with runaway hits that many 3rd party developers/publishers took advantage of being the successful games they were, & you are telling me that these guys could not at least lend characters for this game?
Also all you guys saying that the game failed cause it did not have 'ring outs'. If they did the many of you will say even more it is a Smash Bros. clone. Superbot tried to be different with the Super Kills to differentiate it from Smash. Something i would have liked to see is that each character has a life bar, just like any fighting game. The Supers would be used just like fighting games to gain advantages. I don't know something to think about i guess.
Again i wished that Superbot would've gotten a 2nd chance to improve on what is a solid game, but unfortunately that may not happen anymore.
omg the world will end, if people really think that 0.52 units sold since november is a failure. At least give the game a year, to decide its lifetime sales
It fail? Man i love this game i always find people online and theres some good fights ,yeah sure there's some flaws like overpowered characters and levels 1 or 2 like raiden and the level 1 of sly oohhh well I'm having fun whit my friends and this game
I was so close to buying this and was super hyped for it until I realized that there's not that much in it, all the unlockables were sort of lame. Not to mention LOADS of characters that should have been in it weren't.
Should have been unlockable stages, unlockable characters, MORE characters, and loads of unlockable items / weapons.
I also kind of wish it played like power stone and not SSB, but that's super wishful. Or perhaps even if it had just been more like this: http://www.youtube.com/watc...
What I didn't like about the game was it felt slow like you couldn't button mash like in smash bros I also didn't like the super move thing so that's why I didn't buy it after playing it for about 3 hours
For me personally, I think I looked at PS All Stars as a huge AAA title, and was a bit let down that it wasn't. I also think the characters weren't as well represented as they could have been from a graphical standpoint. The lack of real cutscenes were also an issue for me personally.
Also, as a fan of PlayStation games since the beginning..the lack of Crash and Spyro and maybe even Lara Croft were a bit odd to me. I know they aren't "exclusives" but when I think of the original PlayStation, those are the games that I fell in love with.
Lastly, I just don't think people could identify this game as a standalone product, too many comparisons to Smash Brothers and I'm not sure if that could have hurt sales or people's interest in the game overall.
Some games just don't seem to sell at a really high number regardless of their level of quality, I wouldn't call that "failed".
I'd give it around an 8/10, though I can understand a few of the 7's it received
I still hope we get a sequel
now i see why developers stay with "first person shooter" only games now, market afraid to buy non violent games.
just saying

Jog on TROLL.

It's probably not a failure per se , but it didnt excite much either

lol because it tried to copy a game that was actually successful.
"One game and it's a failure? Damn! all it needs is a sequel to correct any issues or complaints."
lol wut? crap is crap buddy.
