The Last Of Us’ Infected Enemies Are Fast, Fungal and Damn Frightening to Look at | Kotaku

Kotaku: "Before diving into an extended hands-on session with Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, creative director Neil Bruckmann describes what he hopes I'll take away from the demo: 'We want to demonstrate through gameplay, through action what people have had to deal with.' By 'people', he's referring to the survivors of a population-wiping plague that took hold 20 years prior when a plant-based parasite began burrowing into human brains. As far as what those struggling few 'have had to deal with', well, Bruckmann's talking about the Infected." (PS3, The Last Of Us)

"Still, thanks to some of the most immersive sound work I've experienced this generation, The Last of Us never lets me truly relax; from the Runner's pattering feet to the Clickers tell-tale tongue twitch, the air always seems to be carrying some unsettling sound. Even non-threatening audio cues, like deafening shotgun blasts and the finger-nails-on-chalk-board screech accompanying the movement of environmental objects, has little trouble shooting a chill down my spine."

Alright...now I'm hyped.

Man, this game is unreal. This changes everything.

Graphics, gameplay, overall quality, combined with the power of Naughty Dog.

Survival horror is back.

I guess it's finally time for Silent Hill: 2 to step down...
That IS saying something, I adored that ******* masterpiece of a game! When James was on his knees with the 2 PHs and said things... OOoh, chills.

The last time I played a game that scared the pudding into my pants was the original Resident evil. Come in second was the first silent hill and Alan wake. Then after that most of the horror game became more action oriented then focusing on scaring players. But I feel this game will somehow bring that back. I want to play a game where as a player I feel vulnerable and have to think twice before jumping into action or opening certain doors.
I remember playing Resident Evil, every door and every corner i come up upon, i didnt want to open or go through because i fear what would be on the other side. I want to play a Horror game where I have sense of feeling that I will not have a second chance and all it takes is one mistake to end the game.

BioShock and dead space 1&2 were pretty scary. Still remember in BioShock the part that truly got me to scream was when I was in the dentist office and it suddenly fills up with smoke then it goes away and as soon as the character turns there is a mutant behind you lol

I bet that stage 3 will have the infected exploding since that's what the real fungus does to the insects it infects. This game has honestly exceed some of my expectations so far. I truly hope it doesn't disappoint because I will be torn and whine about it in forums the way I was when I got through U3(not a bad game but expected to a lot more) lol fingers cross XD

I was surprised by what i saw in the new vid. They look like they have like these fucking tumors going out of their heads. Really scary, and disgusting as well.
