Insomniac leaves Sony exclusivity behind in new shooter Fuse | EDGE

EDGE: "First it was Overstrike, and now it’s Fuse. It seems appropriate that Insomniac’s first game to appear on a non-Sony console has suffered a crisis of identity, but it’s still disappointing to have watched it slough off a visual style that recalled Team Fortress 2 and exchange it for something with less flair. It was necessary, argues Ted Price, as part of a rejig that moved the alien substance Fuse to the centre of the gunplay as well the narrative. Freed of the stylised nature of the previous approach, Fuse is better able to communicate the violent outcomes of its creative weapons." (Fuse, PS3, Xbox 360)

Well the game shows signs being heavily influenced by EA.

I bet they are realizing that EA is anti freedom right now when it comes to a person putting out games. Anyone can see that the changes to fuse graphical style and mood was from EA no matter what insomniac is trying to say.

I hope they go to someone else or back to sony when they finish this game because I still don't see it selling.

That and I swear Insomniac already declared this a long while ago after Resistance 3, the series itself not even doing well at all...

That and Insomniac simply were 2nd-party devs, they didn't have any 'Ties' with, but they have to focus on gaining profit or risk ending up becoming like THQ so, this is an obvious move..... spread out and be multiplatform.

'Leaves Sony Exclusivity' sounds like it was made just for shock factor and hits, when any gamer or PS3-user already knew Insomniac was going to make multiplatform games now.... -.-
DeadlyFire  +   435d ago
They likely are relying heavily on the publisher to fund the game as well. So EA has some say, but still it could be alot better than what most expect. Its not a first party EA title. They have some input, but the core of the development is in Insomniac's hand.
gaminglives  +   436d ago
We were quite taken by Overstrike when they showed it at the 2011 EA conference, but FUSE doesn't appear to have the same sense of character, which is a shame.
BISHOP-BRASIL  +   436d ago
I really hope they still get everything right within the crazy weapons (what I like to call the Ratchet & Clank post effects, you imagine and want crazy weapons for everything), still looking forward to it... But indeed, it's not as impressive as Overstrike.

I'm not surprised though. They argued they were lefting Sony for have better creative control over their games just to go out there and hug EA... Of all publishers, EA. We all knew it would eventually happen.
mochachino  +   436d ago
When the first impression of a shooter is reminiscent of the failure Haze, you know the games in trouble.
Megaton  +   436d ago
Looks like the same soulless ooze that drips from all of EA's other orifices.
DasTier  +   436d ago
Such as Mass Effect?
Megaton  +   436d ago
Yep. Ruined that series too.
DasTier  +   436d ago
I wouldn't know, I haven't played since the first. I still love BF3 though. Yet the BFBC2 is superior.
Megaton  +   436d ago
I like Battlefield as much as I like CoD, which is to say I don't like Battlefield.
kostchtchie_  +   436d ago
Mass Effect ruined...... Correct
Dead space ruined...... Correct
Dragon Age ruined...... Correct
C&C Generals ruined ...... Likely
Mirrors Edge ruined...... Don't bother EA you only fk it up

yeah keep up the epic work EA you are on a kill streak
ironfist92  +   436d ago
I was hoping for a Mirror's Edge sequel, but after EA's latest "efforts", Im glad they havent ruined yet another gem.
Sandmano  +   436d ago
Well cant say theyl be sorely missed...
Servbot  +   436d ago
Precious few people know/care about Fuse. I love Insomniac but I can't see this game selling well at all.
Hanso  +   436d ago
yes even pachter predictet for fuse 5 Million sales..
so atomic bomba confirmed for fuse
grailly  +   436d ago
hopefully they'll push it back a bit and release it cheaper... I'de get it if it's in anyway similar to the coop in resistance 2.
Blastoise  +   436d ago
I wouldn't count on it lol

I'd love a fully expanded Resistance 2 co-op mode game though, I'd totally buy that
first1NFANTRY  +   436d ago
Judging by the gameplay direction it seems they left for the worst. Bargain bin purchase at best.

insomniac makes amazing single player games, minus resistance 3....but the online portions have always been terrible.

It's bad enough they have to lower the graphics to keep the game running smooth for online gaming, and it's bad enough the hit detection/animation system is terrible..

Pump 10 rounds in the chest vs the leg, get the same result. Pump every round into their head and finally after the 6th shot you get a headshot?

I like shooters where your player reacts to certain impacts, not just some universal animation for any hit, regardless of where it happens.
BrianC6234  +   436d ago
Insomniac isn't Sony exclusive anymore? Wow, such big news. /sarcasm off

What's with that dumb title?
BitbyDeath  +   436d ago
Insomniac leaves Sony exclusivity behind in new shooter Fuse... and pays for it.

Hopefully Insomniac realise their mistake and pick a new partner next time.

Ubisoft seem to be one of the best *big* 3rd party groups around ATM.
ironfist92  +   436d ago
I was hoping for alot of THQ's franchises and their respective developers (like Darksiders and Metro and Saints Row/Red Faction) to go to Ubisoft, theyre the only ones I trust as of now. Activision and EA cant be trusted.
wenaldy  +   436d ago
The headline cried for attention, which is nothing new.
ArronC07  +   436d ago
EA are only publishing, they have no say in the production of the game.

If people are going to talk trash they should at least their facts right.
Swiggins  +   436d ago
You're a fool if you think that the publisher doesn't have an impact on the final product.

The publisher is the one spending the most money, and they'll do everything in their power to make sure that they see a return on their investment.
kostchtchie_  +   436d ago
exactly mate
ArronC07  +   435d ago
Swiggins: You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

I hate to say this but if insomniac doesnt step up there game then I can see them closing down in the near future.

I just wish they stayed with sony and actually made a new game instead of resistance and ratchet and clank. great games but I feel like there talent could of made something spectacular
Knight_Crawler  +   436d ago
But what if thats all Sony wanted them to make...maybe they wanted to do there own thing and give Resistance and Ratchet a break.
snowman2149  +   436d ago
they'll come back as soon as Fuse is released, I guarantee it. Fuse will not sell and EA will tell them to piss off
shivvy24  +   436d ago
i love sp games and insomniac havent let me down yet on that part , im buying this day 1
arbitor365  +   436d ago
I dont know what insomniac is doing. between this and handing the R&C franchise to their "B team" who have run it into the ground, insomniac is really losing focus and losing their old sense of ambition. it pains me to say this, because they are my favorite developer ever
mochachino  +   436d ago
I don't think it's a good idea to introduce a new shooter IP at the end of a gen defined by an over-saturation of shooters. A lot of great shooters failed to make a major splash, Far Cry 3 for example.

Insomniac would have to do something incredibly innovative to generate adequate excitement, and with current gen hardware, that's almost impossible as the systems couldn't properly handle it.
UnholyLight  +   436d ago
Far Cry 3 was probably the best shooter of this gen as many people have said. I highly disagree with your Èfailed to make a splashÈ comment
mochachino  +   436d ago
I have Far Cry 3 and agree it's one of the best in the gen I never said otherwise, but it did not make a MAJOR splash sales-wise.

A game that good should have sold a lot more, but I think a lot of people couldn't stomach the frequent screen tearing and frame rate drops - it was too much for current consoles.

My point is if a game as good as Far Cry 3 couldn't crash the charts, then what hope does generic shooter Fuse have.
RuleofOne343  +   436d ago
@crusadernm was going to defend you, but your comment is a mess. they were never theirs ,they made a series of games for Sony & after they had done their last game they wanted to venture outside of one platform routine while maintain ownership of the created IP. So they negotiated a Publishing deal w/ EA for one game I think or depending how this one works out . Had nothing to do with hardware, more to do with trying something new & most importantly ownership.

the game has a lot of potential. it needs a little work on the graphics side but for the most part its looking to be something really good. this will do really well on the xbox but i dont see it doing too much on PlayStation. kind of like most 1st and 3rd person shooters on playstaytion.
