Half Life 3: Are We Ever Going To See It Happen?

GB: "Valve's Half Life 3 is a lot like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - except you're Bad Luck Brian and the gold turns out to be a conductor for lightning which strikes you as soon as you touch it. That is to say, Half Life 3 is only as good as it is true; it's only as true as if gamers can touch it; and right now, both scenarios just seem too good to be anything right now. But the question on everyone's lips and fingertips: Is it going to happen? Will Valve pull the trigger on the game and just announce it?" (Half Life 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Could be at this years E3

With MS and Sony showiung off next gen consoles we might see the reveal of Source 2 and then a new game to show it off on which will obviously be HL3

I would like to think they'll do a another Orange box

HL3
L4D - With extras
L4D2 - With extras
CounterStrike GO
and maybe...just maybe TF3 if not that TF2 for consoles but with the PC upgrades

Its Simple to Answer:
Half Life 3 is being developed exclusively for Valve's new console - The Steam Box!

Steam box isnt a console. Plus Valve have announced Source 2.0; which automatically confirms Half-Life 3 (code named Ricochet 2)

And your answer is wrong. HL3 will almost certainly be multiplat.

The "Steam-box" isn't going to be a traditional console. Valve is developing hardware that will allow people to access steam from anywhere in the home.

The "steam-box" is only one part of a larger venture. To make HL3 exclusive to "steam-box" would be the stupidest decision ever.

No doubt The game is In development, but when will we see a release?

Half Life 2 episode 2 was released in 2007 So its been like almost 6 years since the last Half life game. I just dont see why they cant confirm the games development or give any kind of info, this is killing me.

HL2 is going on 9 years and Ep 2 going on 6 years ago, I wonder if the people are still in place and actually remember how to make a HL game? Seems Valve is more interested in making residuals off Steam than actually making games.

Its pretty clear development was halted while they were working on ep.3. I doubt we will ever know what really happened, but at the time, the FPS genre was radically changing. Seems to me, HL was in danger of becoming stagnant and forgotten.

Source has been capable of a lot considering its age, but it could be they wanted to surpass what Source could do and shelved ep.3 to work on Source 2.

Regardless of what happened, timing is everything when it comes to releasing HL3. Expectations are pretty high. HL and HL2 brought fundamental changes to not only the FPS genre but gaming in general.

The next HL (whatever it is) has been in the works for a while. It will be released...eventually. And, no, it will not be a "steam-box" exclusive.
