Kojima looks back on Metal Gear Rising development with satisfaction
Now that the game is complete, Hideo Kojima posted some short bits of commentary on his Twitter on which he looks back on the rough development process and the end result.
(Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, PS3, Xbox 360)
I enjoyed the gameplay. It's the cutscene at the beginning of the demo that really had me really interested.
I'm a big fan of story driven titles and the beginning of the demo had me wanting more. I knew the gameplay would be great because of Platinum's previous games, but I was unsure about the story due to the little info I knew about the game/story after the watermelon TGS 2010 trailer .
I hope Raiden isnt that OP in the beginning of the game. Parrying and slicing is too easy except the random dagger throw. I hope we can upgrade. His katana is more useful than the explosives in the demo.
Love the cinematics. It's all ready Kojima quality. Also, how come Snake didnt have a cool holographic computer compared to what Raiden had? Is this before or after MGS4?
The demo of Rising had a good number of combo moves and other unlockables things that are rewarded / purchased later in the game already available for you to give you a more in depth feel and taste of the gameplay and demonstrate what you will be allowed to do to get you interested. Plus, if you play on harder difficulties not available in the demo, enemies are harder and can be a bit different (as in having more armor, parrying you, and fighting more often than just standing around). Upgrades are supposed to be a big part of the game as well (although I'm not sure about the explosives getting better, but I have a feeling there will be something down the line for them, I do know however there are other types of explosives you find later on which can be more useful). Plus, the demo is a pretty old build, been around for almost 5 months so I'm sure the final build will be a little more polished and feel a bit different.
I'm not just talking about combos. It felt like combos are used only for bosses. I would prefer it if the insta-kill gauge wasnt always full and last so long. It would be better if the ability is rewarded to the player after building it through the combo system instead of eating it via spinal cords. It's easily exploitable and makes the player impossible to die (unless they suck at not seeing attacks coming).
I'm just saying I feel overpowered because of the parry ability that let's me block everything. I really hope they do adjust it on release. I'm looking forward for this game being my new Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden hardcore game.
I also hope that they nerf the amount of HP we're getting from grabbing spines. 100% heal for every enemy we kill almost makes us immortal. There's absolutely no need for health pickups with this system. I highly doubt anybody that played the demo ever died unless they did not understand the gameplay mechanics.
I also highly doubt any explosives available in the game would be as useful as the katana... I hope they add more melee weapons instead of projectiles or explosives.
I hope they also add some sort of endless survival mode in the game. It can be done in the VR training. I understand it's a demo but there wasnt enough enemies to kill and the boss battle was easy... but then again I'm used to games like this and it's so much more refreshing than that crap DmC.
For everyone who's unaware, Kohima practically made the story and everything non gameplay related to rising. So rising will be as official in epic story telling as msg4 was if not better ;)
Of course, it's developed by PG, they know how to make games and great gameplay, unlike Kojima. Kojima can come up with a story, but has no people's in his studio to make games, so they gave it to industry veterans in PG. Time has changed lol, Kojima isn't with Konami anymore, no Konami man power behind Kojima to make games for him anymore. And Kojima Productions clearly doesn't know how to make games, or they would developed MGR themselves. How long is KP existing now? How many games have they made?
So, Kojima fanboys, come and disagree with me, but you know I'm right.
I am definitly getting this game, however im curious how it would of went if Hideo K. had it they way he originally wanted it, being a prequel, and focusing on GreyFox and his cybersuit and skills. I think that would of been cool as well, and who knows maybe Risings' sequel will have GreyFox in it (yes I know he's dead but then again who knows) MGS4 story showed that everyone though BigBoss was dead during the game.
Plat games and input from Hideo definitly will lead Rising: Revengence (btw I know why it was changed to revengence now lol.) Hideo is funny.

On Topic, I played the demo and enjoyed it. But I'm at the point where I won't buy it for the gameplay but for the cutscenes and story.
On note.... even though Im getting rising, I wish the original concept saw the light of day
i loved the first version more then this. it looked way more interesting and more serious because of the engine and because of how raiden cut ..
but im still gonna buy mg rising even before release date :D .
Gaikai may be shown with said hardware though.
