Mirror of the Minds - Wind Waker is the most accurate reflection of Miyamoto’s mind

That Shigeru Miyamoto is a genius is common knowledge. It was no surprise that GameSpy billed him as the most influential person in gaming. Yet what many people don’t realize is that of all the Zelda games, The Wind Waker has turned out to be the most accurate reflection of Miyamoto’s mind. (GameCube, Shigeru Miyamoto, The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Wii U)

Not knocking the article, but WW took so much flack back in the day when first came out...why is it that so many people in the media are now praising it? The HD upgrade. The original toon shading is much better design than this upgrade and the game was brilliant then. I hate the media.

They hated the ''toony'' look of the title
After playing it; they (the media) realized that judging a book by its cover, is pointless (metaphorically speaking).

Ironically it's one of the most beloved games in the franchise now, even spawning many more games with the same art style in both the same and different eras in the timeline.

I think saying it's a solid reflection of Miyamoto's mind is an interesting assessment. In the first NES game, Link was a young boy and the entire series was inspired by Miyamoto's childhood. Wind Waker harkens back to that a little by making Link a child in a bright and colorful world.

I was the same way. Many wanted that "dark and deep" Zelda experience. Even if Wind Waker wasn't that, it was still an awesome and unique experience for the franchise.

Frankly that game in particular is an excellent example of why the concept that every Zelda is the same game over and over is just simply not accurate.

I am sorry BUT I have been guilty of this Over the years too.

I love Zelda. But a combo of the Nintendo Haters and lack of Mature 3rd Party games pushed many to want a more Photo-realistic Zelda.

OoT was astep ahead of the industry and then
The Space World Demo seemed like the NEXT step.

When they changed it, many were disappointed.
Same with the pre-reveal reports of Skyward Sword vs the actual show.

Once I played the games I understood the games and the art-styles.
SS is now my 2nd (or 1st) Favorite Zelda, despite my initial disappointment. And I would love a direct sequel in the same style.

I remember seeing what they had done with Wind Waker the first time and was like WTF. I still bought it and after about two hours into the game I was like, WOW don't judge a book by its cover. It was an amazing game, in fact I liked it better than Twilight Princess. I mean all of the console Zelda titles are instant classics. I guess I should have trusted Nintendo more when I first saw WW. Now I am looking forward to seeing what how they upgrade it. Can not wait.

Even with the Screen Shots of SS I was like "Meh, it's adequate." But once I played it I started enjoying the make and the feel of the game. the style became an "unspoken" character of the game.

Seeing the game moving was different than just seeing the stills/screenshots.

I agree with the Author, I think WW is closest to Miyamoto's Mind- WW was great I just did not live SAILING.

-Mostly, switching from the Map and then having to Change wind directions with the Baton. If they Stream lined that I would like it more.

Sorry Mario, Wind Waker is the best game Nintendo ever published.

Next to Majora's Mask, heh heh...

I´ve always found the wind waker to be the best game ever. It took flack because there are a lot of gamers that think more mature graphics is cooler and better. It's the tabboo of liking something that looks childish. The cell shaded graphics of wind waker just gives the characters a whole other level of facial expressions and life. That along with the exploring of the sea which I found awesome.
1.Wind Waker
2.Ocarina of Time
3.Link to the Past

I don't see how it's even possible to give a list of top Zelda games, even when it's subjective. Personally, my TOP favorite is Majora's Mask, but after that, I couldn't possibly choose follow ups. Wind Waker, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Link's Awakening, the Original Zelda, and so on. It just isn't possible.

It's a smart move from N to bring WW to wiiu, so that millions of people and my self including can enjoy it for the first time in HD era with HD optics.
GC was a flop, everyone had ps2 back then.
