These PlayStation 3 Games Are Running Out of Time

There are some PlayStation 3 games that have been officially canned, like Eight Days. Then, there are upcoming games that always seem to be waiting for new info reveals. Here are some of the most noticeable titles (exclusive and not) that have been M.I.A. If they are going to make this generation, they better hurry it up!

I have given up hope on Versus being released this generation.

Whenever I get the automated email from Amazon telling me that they are still trying to obtain the release date from the publisher, I feel the urge to reply them telling them to not even bother. It's a do-not-reply email address.

I was very excited for Versus for a few years ... now the excitement is completely gone. They need to start announcing titles accordingly with their release window because if i were still riding the hype train and it was releasing, i'd be screaming atop my lungs about it and telling all my friends.

Now I dont even give the game a second thought.

Usually not a good idea to try to convert old, long delayed titles to a next generation system. Its best to just go ahead, and release it on the Last Gen system even if the Next Gen system is already out.

Just because a Next Gen system is out does not mean they stop releasing games on the Last Gen systems. Heck the PS2 had a TON of games that came out WAY after the PS3 was released.

I still haven't given up hope for Versus XIII. Yoichi Wada is the one that keeps screwing things up. And as far as I know, the reason why Versus XIII was being put on hold and "cancelled" for so long was because of XIII, and now they're making a third installment to the damn thing...

Both are 50% done and were cancelled but than were put on hold. I believe it's time for a new getaway game. Reboot the series and launch getaway with ps4.

Eight days sounds so promising so I hope that they finished development and we see it on ps3 or ps4

The last guardian is in development, Sony actually sent some of its top level tech guys to Japan late last year yo help finish the game. I believe this will launch with ps4 day one

Ff13 versus needs a new name we have had enough ff13 games, I believe this will still be a exclusive title, no inside info just my gut feeling is SE will release it as exclusive than after launch it could come to other consoles

just wanted to point out that (unless there's some gaikai stuff involved) making any of these games next gen will imply starting again from scratch with pretty much everything except conceptual design

I think The Last Guardian will eventually come out for the PS3 but it won't be what was originally planned, probably scaled down, similar to what happened with I am Alive

Agent on the other hand was probably canned years ago, or at least placed on permanent hold

Versus is IMO the only one that might be next gen, probably will be renamed XV, that might explain why we haven't seen it in years after that 5 minute gameplay trailer, it probably went down like Heavenly Sword, whhose developement was started on high end PCs long before PS3 dev kits were sent

at some point it was determined that a GTA like open world RPG was not possible on the PS3 and was put on hold until the tech could allow it

None of the games will have to start from scratch.

First generation "Next-gen" games for most people is a higher poly count, better draw distance and 60fps at 1080p resolution. It's not as hard as you think.

Might as well call it FF XV. From what I've seen so far, the game has no relation/connection to FF XIII. Seems to be a different time and universe like almost all FF games.

Pretty sure it's called Versus XIII just on the fact that it's exclusive and isn't taking the direction that XIII went when it went multiplat. I would hope that they rename it XV though so there's no confusion between the series.

Wrong. It's the same mythos as XIII. Etro and Bhunivelze and all those things.

It was never meant to connect to XIII's story. (Although I kind of wish it did)

The only thing that these games have in common is the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos which according to SE is a "vague crystal theme". I'm taking this info directly from Wiki.

The game still remains a completely different game set in different universe and reality.

I really hope you're wrong about Eight Days never seeing the light of day. Even now i still think it looks really cool. Hope Sony kept their "not cancelled, on hold" word and are planning to finish and release it someday.

Been waiting on FF Versus 13 & Agent & The Last Guardian for ages. Im not really worried bout The Last Guardian because the creator usually takes his time & makes master pieces out of them but Agent & FF Versus 13 been way too long. PS4 & Next Box will drop & still havent seen sh!t from these 2 titles.

You do realize that The Last Guardian's creator announced he's leaving the company and only finishing the game on contract right? The game's obviously in development hell.

SE at least has the excuse that it's been making and/or publishing tons of titles this gen (regardless of overall quality). Team Ico hasn't produced ANYTHING since SotC in 2005, that's nearly a decade.

Team Ico don't even exist anymore. Sony shut them down, merged the few staff still there with SCE Japan and pretty much gave The Last Guardian to SSM to co-develop/finish. It needed to be done, they were wasting too much money on what is quite a niche game.

FFv13 we will be seeing in the next few months. Wada said so it must be true. I reckon it'll still be ps3.

Agent Im sure is cancelled. Honestly Rockstar North have better things to do.. And always will. GTA will always take priority so i don't see it ever happening unless they move it to another R* studio.

For me, the problem is that if TLG releases for the PS3 I'm not even interested anymore, I'll only pick it up if it's for the PS4, same goes for vs13. Last games I can see myself buying for PS3 is God of War Ascension, The Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls.

All I know is ps2 still had god of war and other games release at the end of its life. WHich is much better then the lack of games wii and x360 has coming out right now.

Persona 5 isnt running out of time. persona 3 came out right before Warhawk for the ps3. I remeber this because i was like I need to finish persona 3 before warhawk comes out because warhawk was gonna be 32 player dedicated server online battles with huge maps, airplanes and vehicles and such. When i beat p3 i was happy and lucky because i was addicted to warhawk forever lol. when they released the trophy patch i only had to do a few trophies to get the platinum.

With that said persona 4 came out for ps2 even deeper into the ps3 life cycle. I got the edition with the art book of p4 as well.

It seems like persona series and stuff like last guardian always release like right before or shortly after the new console comes out.

I gave up on Versus long ago. It seems Square-Enix are more interested in starting new projects and releasing them first, instead of pushing Versus out of the door.

It's taken them an entire gen to make Versus and still we have no release date.

Let's not forget: Both GOWII & SoTC are released in 2007. A YEAR after the PS3 is released. I don't see why Versus XIII wouldn't come at 2014 with a very large PS3 install base.

Video games should never be announced more than a year and a half ahead of their projected release dates. The fact Versus is in it's 7th year of development is soooooo disgusting. No game is worth that amount of wait.

In the wake of the announcement that FFXIII would no longer be a PS3 exclusive, a series of events would follow shortly thereafter.

First, and foremost, the realization that the most important exclusives were subject to jumping ship caused a serious wakeup call to the industry, it's fans, and to the companies that had them. The FFXIII incident was one of the major announcements that signaled the forthcoming extinction of exclusive loyalty.

Second, it caused Square alot of criticism by the PS3 user base. You see, Square just wanted to expand it's audience. They didn't realize that by doing so would threaten it all together. So, in an attempt to keep their agenda successful they announce another PS3 exclusive for their fans...just to keep them quiet. Doesn't sound true? Well then, let me explain.

First off, why would Square make a logical business move and multiplat FFXIII and turn around and make another FF just for the PS3? The motive to go multiplat was to make more money. So why would anyone believe FFXIII Versus be given any special treatment, if it were true? To me it sounds like Square chose the money, which is fine, and announced FFXIII Versus to save their reputation and keep their PS3 users buying their multiplat products until they were done with them. Think about it. If they are willing to give the PS3 an exclusive then why didn't they just keep FFXIII exclusive in the first place?

And it seems to be working. They are pumping out sequels and years later Versus is nowhere to be seen. If you would just look at the big picture and see it from Square's point of view, the answer becomes clear. The industry wasn't ready and Square reacted.
