Top 5 JRPGs of 2013

"If there’s one genre that I miss this generation, it is the JRPGs that graced both the PS2 and PSOne over a decade ago. Popular RPG franchises like Wild Arms, Suikoden, Shadow Hearts, and Grandia are among the titles that went MIA ever since the PS3 was released. While the RPG genre isn’t necessarily dead as there are Western RPG titles that are still popular like the Elder Scrolls game, the one thing that appears to be dead are the RPGs from Japan as we continue to see them less every year." - JPS

I would love a new Shadow Hearts game. The 3rd one sucked but the first two were excellent examples of horror rpgs that I really miss. I don't know who owns the IP, but I would love for them to bust out a new game and surprise everyone with it.

Suikoden is a series Konami is killing. All they do is release spin off titles in other words on handhelds. I wanna see another game with Georg Prime in it, explore more of the world. Maybe a game where the heroes join up to face off against a greater threat than any of them have faced before. We need another Suikoden 2.

If there will be a suikoden game, let it be on the Wii U or PS3. I'll take a 3DS game too

I rather have a Vita version than 3DS.

good ole Shadow Hearts. I was just looking at those the other night thinking I really need to play them again sometime. though the third is actually still in the cellophane I loved the first two. I really enjoyed the ring system too.

I'd love to see Suikoden II available. I've actually been tempted to sell the first two but I'm afraid I'd never be able to replace II. Unfortunately I just don't see Konami releasing a good Suikoden title. Perhaps it's time the give up the title to Level 5 to make an installment. would be great to finally another great Suikoden game released...

there's certainly quite a few other classics I'd love to see. the last few years of the PS2 there was no short of good-great RPGs now this gen they've all faded....

Wow, only one on a non-Sony system. Sony's been doing well with JRPGs lately.

However, I am very excited for Fire Emblem, was definitely glad to see that in there. :]

I'm very interested in Fire Emblem Awakening, but seeing as how I don't own a 3DS (currently) I'll have to wait.

I can't wait for Ys: Memories of Celceta and Tales of Xillia. I've never played a Atelier game. Would anyone here recommend it?

I played the Fire Emblem demo and it's amazing...

As for Ys and Xillia, I couldn't agree more! Those games are going to be fantastic!

The gameplay looks alright but the characters are so generic it makes me sick...what happened after rekka no ken and sacred stones? Even radiance was great..

Final Fantasy Versus XIII but oh wait, one can only hope...

kagon011268d ago

The game is dead there is no reason to mention it, I think that "X" game for the Wii U will be released first, and those SE fandrones will still be crying for vs XIII...

DigitalRaptor1268d ago (Edited 1268d ago )

Why would anyone think that Nintendo's 'X' RPG would mitigate the potential greatness of Versus XIII that is clearly still in development and coming out for PS3 most likely this year, or next at the very latest? People still claim FFVII is the ultimate Final Fantasy game and that's after 10+ years since it came out.

What difference does it make when Versus XIII comes out compared to what comes after. A great game based on a great vision will still be a great game, and I am still waiting.

I'll be getting Ni no Kuni (can't afford it now though), Tales of Xillia and probably Ys. It certainly will be a good year.

abzdine1268d ago

i enjoyed the Ys on PSP, i'll go for the new one on Vita.

Snookies121267d ago

If you get the chance, Ys Origin for PC... That is my favorite in the series, it's just wonderfully done. I started out with Ys Seven though, and will definitely be getting Ys Celceta for Vita day one.
