Speed Running is About Playing a Game as Fast as You Can

GamerFitNation: Speed running is about having complete mastery over a video game. Speed running is also about knowing a game inside and out, knowing the game so well that you know what you are required to get, and what you can get away with skipping. Watching someone speed run a game inspires awe because they blow through games that took us hours, days, and sometimes weeks to beat. Speed Demo Archive and Speed Runs Live, recently put on a marathon benefiting charity; this marathon lasted for a week with games being played throughout the entire event. That marathon showed not only the ability of gamers, but their compassion as well. (Banjo-Kazooie, Culture, Retro, Super Mario 64)

That's never fun for me. I always take the time to smell the roses.

Unless it's a Sonic or racing game of course.

The first time, yes. But after a second or third time round, it's fun to try.

My cousin and I played turtles in time over and over as kids trying to improve or time.

I try to catch Trihex when he does his "Yoshi's Island" speedruns (through Twitch.tv). It's interesting to see them find exploits that go around the normal sequence, and their technical skill and memorization really shows

I'm more a fan of speedruns without "cheating", but either way they can be fun to watch

Isn't it actually about finishing a game as fast as you can rather than playing a game as fast as you can?

Sonic 2... they must've had speedrun on their minds when they made it.

Some of the big games, like MGS4, can be finished in about 40 minutes.
