Its not about number of units sold. Its about games bought per owner and I think MS have made more of a profit than Sony this gen. Just look at how well Kinect sold and the revenue MS bring in from Live with 40 million subscribers. PS3 is the better console though but MS is winning financially in the games market. Though I think that will change next gen. Sony are coming first to the table this time and PS4 is said to be more power than the next xbox so it will be interesting.
Has anyone run the numbers to see who actually made more money this gen? Sony lost more per console early on than Microsoft but then Microsoft lost billions dealing with the RROD fiasco. Microsoft has higher software sales but Sony has more 1st party exclusives which you would think carry a higher profit margin. Microsoft rakes in money on Live fees while Sony gets revenue from Plus fees. And of course Microsoft spends a lot more on marketing.
So without examining their financial reports it's not clear who made more profit over all.
To me it's more about which one, or ones, has the games I want to play. While I want the companies making games available to me to do well, sales and profits shouldn't really be our concern.
Many of us need to learn the difference between shipped and sold to actual customers....It makes no sense to argue over how many consoles MS and Sony sold in the first place though...
Congratulations to Microsoft! I've been on board since the 360's launch. Cannot wait to see what the next Xbox has in store for us all. When you consider that the original Xbox sold only 24 million, this is an incredible number. Also consider the market share that Microsoft currently holds, it is indeed impressive.
Great job ms but enough with kinect games & more hardcore games. Been gone for a while & as awesome halo 4 was i still dont see any other IP's other then halo & gears. Competition is great but ms seriously abandoned the hardcore gamers. Thank u kinect.
Actually even less, unless that 40 million are all gold memberships which i doubt. It is actually a good business decision profit wise just not a good decision for consumers who are pretty much locked out of half their gaming purchases. might as well offer half the game at half the price lol what with MP inaccessible.
My son and I have an account each and we don't own a 360 anymore. My fiance once created an account just to play a party game, scene it I think it was, she never touched an xbox again since that night almost 5 years ago.
So XBOX 360 will be NO.1 by next year. Wow M$ had defiantly won this gen. I hope Sony really get there ass out there heads and start to really get back to basic and win next gen.

It's been proven time and time again that the only region that MS is ahead in NA. Both Japan and Europe have PS3 leading and the gaps in both of those regions more than counteract anything that MS has accomplished in NA.
Just a word from the wise don't always believe someone when they have a ton to gain from what they say. It's smart to look around at what many other sources are saying to get a better picture of the truth.

Having said that, both companies are raking in good money on software and bleeding like crazy on hardware and R&D.
