GS:Microsoft home console hits new sales milestone, with Xbox Live membership above 40 million.
good work M$.
Grats M$ keep pumping out the support.
His numbers are off, MS reported 76M CHOCOBOS at the end of december also 40M online, this article its behind the powerball, just like gamespot. Mmmm, kinf of dumb article, we will see the numbers again 3rd week of february and Sony and MS will be closer together. Xbox 360 unit sales 8.2 1.4 1.1 13.0 1.7 5.9 LTD Xbox 360 unit sales 75.9 Total Xbox LIVE members >40 This numbers are innacurate they are deferral form End cycle FY 1. READ STATEMENT +++ = Adjusted for Video Game Deferral (MEANING not acurate its to follow... third week feb you will see real numbers}
WOW you have a little TOO much time on your hands to care about numbers THAT much. This dude broke it down like its serious business or something. My dude, go get some friends and chill out, LOL
To every person on this idiotic site that does not have a clue about NPD tracking of software, and hardware. Please watch this and skip to the 2min mark. Thank you and STFU. http://www.gametrailers.com...
Thanks for the video link mwjw696, good info.
AwesomeSauce!!!! The Defense Force Nooooooooooooo!!!
Way to go MS... now bring me 720!
Its not about number of units sold. Its about games bought per owner and I think MS have made more of a profit than Sony this gen. Just look at how well Kinect sold and the revenue MS bring in from Live with 40 million subscribers. PS3 is the better console though but MS is winning financially in the games market. Though I think that will change next gen. Sony are coming first to the table this time and PS4 is said to be more power than the next xbox so it will be interesting.
Has anyone run the numbers to see who actually made more money this gen? Sony lost more per console early on than Microsoft but then Microsoft lost billions dealing with the RROD fiasco. Microsoft has higher software sales but Sony has more 1st party exclusives which you would think carry a higher profit margin. Microsoft rakes in money on Live fees while Sony gets revenue from Plus fees. And of course Microsoft spends a lot more on marketing. So without examining their financial reports it's not clear who made more profit over all.
To me it's more about which one, or ones, has the games I want to play. While I want the companies making games available to me to do well, sales and profits shouldn't really be our concern.
Sony has had the higher attach rate since 2010... Having said that, both companies are raking in good money on software and bleeding like crazy on hardware and R&D.
Many of us need to learn the difference between shipped and sold to actual customers....It makes no sense to argue over how many consoles MS and Sony sold in the first place though...
Congratulations to Microsoft! I've been on board since the 360's launch. Cannot wait to see what the next Xbox has in store for us all. When you consider that the original Xbox sold only 24 million, this is an incredible number. Also consider the market share that Microsoft currently holds, it is indeed impressive.
Holy crap. Congrats MS. Well done.
Good numbers for M$. Competition is good for the industry. Next gen is going to be steller for us gamers.
hey congratulation Microsoft nice sales¡¡
Great Work Microsoft! Nobody thought Xbox would take of like this
It's shipped but year GREAT grow from previous gen.
Great job ms but enough with kinect games & more hardcore games. Been gone for a while & as awesome halo 4 was i still dont see any other IP's other then halo & gears. Competition is great but ms seriously abandoned the hardcore gamers. Thank u kinect.
good job ms..
Microsoft did well this generation, but it's still funny to see them get third place with a one-year head start.
Only 40 million of them are allowed to play online? Terrible business decision, Online should have been free.
Actually even less, unless that 40 million are all gold memberships which i doubt. It is actually a good business decision profit wise just not a good decision for consumers who are pretty much locked out of half their gaming purchases. might as well offer half the game at half the price lol what with MP inaccessible.
Those are accounts, not actual users. I made 2 myself and I don't even have 360 anymore.
My son and I have an account each and we don't own a 360 anymore. My fiance once created an account just to play a party game, scene it I think it was, she never touched an xbox again since that night almost 5 years ago.
So XBOX 360 will be NO.1 by next year. Wow M$ had defiantly won this gen. I hope Sony really get there ass out there heads and start to really get back to basic and win next gen.
Congrats to Microsoft on a job well done! Eventhough Microsoft is in 3rd place, they still did a great job in terms of sales this gen.
"Eventhough Microsoft is in 3rd place," Not according to those numbers....lol
Learn to read the whole post 75.9 for 360 and 77 for PS3 so yeah that puts MS in 3rd...
360 was the best selling console worldwide the Last two years. According to MS at e3. So its kinda impossible for ps3 to overtake.
@DOMination Yeah MS saying that they are the best selling console worldwide would not be by any means totally biased and not open to any kind of lying right... It's been proven time and time again that the only region that MS is ahead in NA. Both Japan and Europe have PS3 leading and the gaps in both of those regions more than counteract anything that MS has accomplished in NA. Just a word from the wise don't always believe someone when they have a ton to gain from what they say. It's smart to look around at what many other sources are saying to get a better picture of the truth.
the casuals sure love them so kinect this is bad news for core xbox fans tho
So now Xbox sales place wise are in question? Is it 2nd now or 3rd? Gamespot doesn't quite know...
Good work M$, you screwed your fans to get there, hope you're all pround of yourselves, your N4G fanboys apparently are. PS, where is the 720? Sony has you beat.
Congrats looking forward to the new console.
