Capcom released "too many" Resident Evil titles last year, admits Revelations producer

Capcom released "too many" Resident Evil titles in the "last year or two", Resident Evil Revelations producer Masachika Kawata has told VideoGamer.com, admitting that the publisher has learned that "putting on a lot of titles [does] not necessarily win over gamers".

Seriously!!! Scrap the over-the-top nonsense in RE5 and 6, and get back to business. Make it scary and bring back the survial horror aspect...It's that simple.

this is a call to all Japanese devs and publishers; please return to what you do best - to your classics and fundamentals that made RE and RE2 so awesome and thrilling (silent hill too). that made Shadow of the colossus and FF7 so intriguing and captivating

Kojima is the only one who still does a very decent job. MGS5 is going to amaze us like MGS4 did for me anyway :)

i dont know if that's the best thing to do i think they should forget about those and try to go back to the roots with the next one. You can play RE in HD on your PC with Dolphin emulator for Wii and Gamecube. i did that and i replayed them from 1 to Code: Veronica. Pure awesomeness!

I really enjoyed Revelations - and, yes, even Resi 6...

The problem was the main game in the series was an action game not a Resident Evil game.
I have Resident Evil 6, I've managed to complete Leon's campaign but can't bring myself to finish the other's.
I should have just traded it in but couldn't bring myself to do it to my favourite game series, Res 1 was the 1st ever PS1 game I played and I was hooked after that.
Capcom are doing their best to get rid of though it seems!

Ada Wong's campaign is the best, because she is a lone wolf plus you get to solve puzzles like the tradition resident evil games. It even has less quick time events than the other campaigns. You gonna have to be stealthy too. Her campaign also fill in the void for the story also.

Then more people feeling like that should have stopped funding the crap action game twice already , and only supported games like Revelations (or should have wait for home console versions) or the re-releases .

Instead we have the same bunch conning themselves over and over , and trying games "out of curiosity" or out of fear of a franchise dying . At 60$ it's time to let go of that mentality imo .

I've seen people buying a ps3 and 360 over re6 , knowing they've had issues with it , and constantly moaning about it . When for a cheaper price they could have gotten instead a 3ds and revelations and be somewhat pleased

I'm starting to notice a trend nowadays. Developers are turning their backs on their core fanbase to try and appeal to casuals, only to see the casuals go back to the new CoD by the end of the year.

True indeed.(Even though I disagree with the idea) In their defense in terms of marketing and making money, it's a smart business move. At the same time however, they're losing site of made said devloper popular in the eyes of the core gamers/fans.

It really is sad to see that they'll place money over values, and turn their backs on their true fans.

At this point, I just want to see Capcom put their efforts into an old-school survival horror Resident Evil AND give it the ridiculous amount of marketing and hype that RE5 and RE6 had. They say that people aren't interested in horror games anymore, and yet I'm sure they'd be surprised if they actually put any effort into both the development and the advertising.

Well atleast Capcom is starting to notice but I saw this line on a Eurogamer article:

"If we did [go with an open-world], we would want to preserve what Resident Evil is and what makes it appealing to fans, while also making it accessible to new players."

Pretty much what they tried doing with RE5 and 6 so I'm not interested until Capcom make a worthy RE game. Im sorry to say it but Revelations was okay, not as amazing as people make it out to be IMO but maybe thats because the last two RE games have been Sub-par at best.

Except they didnt really try that with RE5-6 imo , sure there were the leon parts in re6 , but the rest was just PR and marketing talk .

Well I meant that they have tried to keep the RE games appealing to fans while making it accessible to new players, I know they havnt made it open world. I should of been more clear on that sorry.

Im not too sure I understand your last comment but Capcom did say that RE6 will keep old fans happy but the entire thing was filled with quick time events and set pieces and no horror.
