Playeressence's Furious Francis discusses what features he would like to see in the next Metroid game for the Wii U.
This will be the big N's Halo. It will be amazing.
If this is indeed what Retro Studios is working on, after seeing what Monolith Software is doing on the Wii U Graphics and Draw distance-wise, I can't wait to see what this game looks like. Prime 3 looked amazing, even on the Wii's comparatively limited hardware. It'll be no PC level look of course, but those guys know how to do the most with what they're given.
I think it will actually look better than most PC games because of the Art style. Yeah PC can push way more polygons, but Retro's art team is one of the best in the business. Medal of Honor has some of the best graphics on a decked out PC, but I think Halo 4 looks better because of the art direction and animations. There are more to games 'looking' great than raw specs.
I hear you on that. Art style is crucial.
A Retro made HD Metroid will be amazing. In the article they have one interesting idea: have Samus have an internal monologue. Her thoughts would come out of the gamepad speakers. Imagine walking into that destroyed ship in Prime 3 and you hear Samus say quietly "They're dead. They're all dead." Or something better and less generic :). Wouldn't that be cool and add atmosphere? They would have to get a good writer or else it would be incredibly annoying, though. Even if that wouldn't work for Metroid, that would be perfect for an Eternal Darkness sequel.
Metroid Prime was intended as a trilogy so I doubt there will be a 4th one.
So was Halo. And Mass Effect. And probably a half dozen other game franchises. Your point?
Reasoning: Halo made complete sense as a Trilogy, 343 has managed to make a new Trilogy to complete what Halo 4 started. Prime is known for being Metroid first person, and the mysterious ship at the end of Prime 3 indicates it's not over. Though the end of Phazon would mean no more Metroid Prime, it can easily expand.
At the very least there will be a spiritual sequel in the same Universe/canon (if that makes sense)
I have my doubts they'll be a 4th Metroid Prime anytime soon, I have a feeling Retro are working on Star Fox if not then it'll be something else Im sure will be awesome. If ever there is a 4th instalment I expect it'll be a while before we see it.
Fine....Metroid Dread it is then :p Or they can just make another name, Metroid Omega or something like that.
Metroid prime trilogy was awesome, From play mechanic to visual graphic & art style. But I'd rather Nintendo make the next metriod game play similar to other M. I know I know other M sucks like hell as many of you would say. But I think the main reason why Other M failed was because of the lack of optical memory space on the wii's disc which was limited to 8gb; resulting to a more run gun action game rather than exploring corridors & find hidden items. So, now that the Nintendo's Wii U has the memory optical space (25gb),taking the same approach(other M) again shouldn't be an issues.
metroid prime trilogy would like a word with you?
LOL It just that I don't see metriod as a FPS. The 3rd person preservative game play view is good in all but I'd rather it be more like Other M in my opinion. Other M was a great attempt by team Ninja; to make it as close possibly as they could to the 8bit 2d metroid. but I like said before, the wii's optical space wasn't enough to make it good. Time will only tell.
thats only in regards to your comment about exploring and finding items and how much gb the prime games took and it was fairly good amount to do in those games it didnt seem to be a big of a focus in metriod other m
The Metroid Franchise has tremendous potential on the Wii U console. Definitely excited for a potential MP4. But personally I think the series might be headed for a reboot.
BTW, Take all of the features the author mentions in this article, apply them to a new version of Metroid Prime Trilogy, and I'll buy that as well.
The Multiplayer from Echoes brought into High Definition...
I can only imagine how fantastic this game would look on the Wii U. Metroid Prime 3 was in SD 480p Widescreen and looked amazing! What is Retro going to do with a fully HD console, and dynamic controller? We should see this game at E3 this year.
I thought quite a few places in Halo 4 were influenced by Metroid, so if a new one looks anything like those parts in Halo 4, I'd be extremely happy. This could very well be a 'halo killer', if it has awesome MP online. When I say 'halo killer', I mean it as in something that can rival Halo, with its huge fanbase for SP and MP. I am in no way suggesting Halo fans (such as myself) would 'jump ship' so-to-speak. Basically, I am freaking excited to see Nintendo go up against the 'big boys', like Halo and Killzone for their respective platforms.
Metroid has always been more interesting gameplay wise to me than Halo. Metroid has upgrades, platforming, scanning, hidden areas and secrets. I can't get into the Halo single player campaigns. I played Halo 1 and 2 multiplayer in Lan parties with my buddies in High school every weekend.
Not opposed to anything in the article. I just hope that they give it a "Core" glossing. Near Photo-Realism- not because I crave that sort of thing but because Nintendo needs it to showcase their plan to win back the "Core". I would also like it to be more open world and that it would allowed for more variance. I think it needs to go in the same direction as Nintendo is planning for Zelda. Weapons being Keys and backtracking... It would be better if problems were handled more like Giest. If Samus has to break into a building to get a baddie- you can chose multiple ways toward the goal. -Stealth. -Speed -Power -Even Negotiation... -Hack (from MP2) Also, I would not be opposed to going beyond Metroids and having Samus just be a Bounty Hunter on a Coruscant type planet. I also would like to be able to use Zero Suit as a Stealth option (she was awesome in SSB). But if it is just another MP with WiiU upgrades- I will still BUY it. - even if they use Zelda: Wind Waker graphic style (pretty but not really Metroid), RETRO has earned my trust w/ Gameplay.
Yeah, Samus having some sort of stat upgrades available to her would be a welcomed edition.
As much as I would LOVE to see a new Metroid Prime game from Retro, I'm hoping that they are working on a brand new IP at the moment.
I doubt it's a new Prime game. Those games were special on their own, and I wouldn't want Nintendo to give in to people who have nothing better to do than to rant and bitch about every little thing. Other M was good, and had good ideas that they can expand upon if players are willing to give them a chance to do so. Interquels are usually very tough to introduce new lore into a franchise, especially to a franchise like Metroid that was both gameplay driven up until recently and with the recent bug this gen of gamers have had with being whiny. Hopefully Nintendo doesn't do this because I wouldn't mind the game exploring Samus even more and give a good reason behind what feelings she goes through and why she experiences them at certain points. What they delved into is a complex illness that few people know about, and it would be very interesting to see, if they were to not give in, if they give the story a MGS style treatment and give us a story that we have to actually THINK about to understand instead of the mindless stories that I keep seeing in some games.
It would be cool if scanning and combat could be multitasked, like the main screen is always the combat screen and the game pad is for your visors. When you select the scan visor the gamepad has a replica of the main screen but you can touch items to scan that process while you fight, then the gamepad displays combat info you can read on the go or pause to examine better, maybe highlights weaknesses and health. I'd like to not have to hold the gamepad up to scan and look around, but that is probably what they will have you do
I would really like for the gamepad to be able to free up buttons on the controller, like being able to have a sprint button that initiates Speed Booster when you get it (though I admit the movement of past Primes was the perfect pace), or have a dive mechanism that is more pronounced than a dash but takes more time to execute. I hope they go the Prime 1&2 route for Beams, merging beams in first person just isn't or wasn't as cool as it was in the 2-D one's
There was a lot of stopping and scanning you had to do in the first Trilogy, I would like to be able to scan and view at my leisure without having to take me out of combat to view. The gamepad should open a lot more freedom that was limited by the number of buttons you could press.
I only have the first Metroid Prime on the GC, but it was great and the graphics were brilliant and still hold up today. Nintendo's best FPS.
I trust N with everything they do. But show us some pictures trailers, make some hype N,push your marketing.
They are saving it for E3....if they show everything now, what will they have to surprise people when everyones talking about 720/PS4. They need to hold certain things back......Metroid,Starfox and Fzero need to be things that they keep hidden so when their competitors start dropping bombs, Nintendo has things to fight back with!
