Eurogamer writes: 'Resident Evil developer Capcom has said that there is a possibility of a reboot for its 17-year-old survival-horror-turned-action- horror franchise.'
Let's hope it's more than just a possibility - while not terrible, I don't think much can be done to improve the current version of the series. RE4 was the highlight, so let's give another person's vision for the series a chance.
I wouldn't want it to reboot because you would loose all the good characters you've came to love but I would like them to do it because the series has turned into crap As I've said reboot it but start with the mansion incident again yet change things round which will effect future games....kind of like the butterfly effect, you change one thing and everything in the future changes. Lets say the mansions self destruct doesn't work, turned off by Wesker or isn't switched on....the zombies and experiments would wander into Raccoon City earlier while the STARS team are still there. RC incident happens earlier meaning Leon arrives there when the city is quarantined. He see's Claire who is tyring to sneak in but decided to help her, Ada wong joins them to find her bf "John" .....get where I'm going with this You can fix the mistakes of this trilogy while keeping old fans happy. They could totally get rid of the Plagas if they wanted....lets say Umbrella sees it as a threat and decided to bomb the village where it is. Ashley isn't kidnapped and RE4 doesn't happen
No you wouldnt lose the characters And I don't see any easy way to fix weskers death or Chris fighting a boulder if they continue on this path Chris will always be the guy who fought that boulder that one time
"No you wouldnt lose the characters" Course you would...a reboot is a reboot. Those characters will be gone for new ones or ones that don't even resemble them. "And I don't see any easy way to fix weskers death or Chris fighting a boulder if they continue on this path Chris will always be the guy who fought that boulder that one time " Thats the whole point of my idea, you can fix it. Sure you'll remember the original timeline but at least with this one they can try to make it better. If they made a reboot but made Weskers death worse or made Chris punch three boulders then it would be pointless Weskers death would be better Chris wouldn't be put on steroids Barry, Billy, Carlos and Rebecca will be back Jill wouldn't go through that super, blonde chick phase All the pointless characters wouldn't exist Plagas wouldn't exist Hell they could space out the plot in a new time line...you could get three games in one gen on Raccoon City. RE2: Raccoon City Part I/Part II/ Part III...one for Leon/Ada, one for STARS, one for Carlos/Claire
Yeah and we all know what kind of 'reboot' we should expect. It'll probably be called "CALL OF EVIL".
@zeeshan If that actually did happen, knowing Capcom that will probably happen, then I would be done It would defeat the whole point of a reboot
#1: I agree with you. RE4 was a great game. I think with RE5 onwards Capcom just tried way too hard to acquire a bigger audience and made the franchise a bit over-the-top and a bit too action-orientated for fans of the series. What started out as the epitome of survival-horror games ended up being a dumbed-down version of the original mixed with a dumbed-down version of Call of Duty. I hope they can go back to their roots as I have no doubt that the original RE fanbase would nearly match the number of COD's fanbase
What ninja theory? /s
Maybe they are waiting to see how The Last of Us turns out and they will copy it and make the new RE base on it! Let's hope TLOU set new standards and franchises like RE, SH fallow up... Sorry I love daydreaming ..
I would love for a Series Reboot to happen but I would like Shinji Mikami the RE series creator to be involved. On top of that I still want a good back to roots Resident Evil game to grace my Playstation Vita maybe a Reboot of RE Outbreak.
@fantasy weirdly Sony has a resident evil type game on the ps2 called extermination,Sony has obscure game that should make there way on psn or vita.
I played that game and have fond memories of it. It was pretty good. Just like the older resi games. I believe it was one of the first gen games for the PS2.
Mikami is working on his own survival horror game. I'm waiting for that, not going to hold my breath for a RE reboot and even if it happens what are the chances of it being any good? 5 and 6 sucked as RE games.
Too bad that Shinji Mikami is busy with... http://www.siliconera.com/2... Looking forward to see how good that is.
Yeah, they'll do it. Capcom won't pass up the potential revenue. At least they now know which direction they should be heading. I'd happily buy an RE1, 2, and 3 reboot.
It would be damn hard for them to surpass REmake, chances are they will fiddle with Resident Evil 2 again.
a reboot is not a remake.
Please god yes. Like a previous poster said make sure mikami is involved. Make it closed quarters, not necessarily a mansion (though I'd love that) and return to the rpg like elements that went to the wayside with the last few entries.
RPG like elements? Care to explain
More puzzles, more exploration, less ammo drops and health drops so you have to manage your inventory better, less inventory slots on your main person, etc. I want that return to the likes of the original 3 were you get all the way to the end, run out of ammo and realize it's your own mismanagement and the tyrant destroys you.
I miss the game you described
Yeah it's strange how from the original the series has changed.
bring back "survival" horror and the overhead camera angles (not over the shoulder 3rd person crap)
Ohhh no not the over head camera Revelations is proof a true resident evil can be done without it
How dare you call revelations a true resident evil? It was nothing but a re4 expansion and every real fan of RE knows that RE4 killed the series!
overhead camera was due to limitations of the old hardware. There's no need for that anymore. XD
Maybe so, but it was a unique and fun gameplay.
Resident Evil is dead and DMC too f*ck you Crapcom.
DMC is a good game
Regardless of whether Devil May Cry purists like it, the DmC reboot game is good by its own rights. As a non fan of the DMC series (I only played 4) I found the reboot to be lots of fun. I'm 3 hours in so far Stop trying to tie the game to the original series and judge it on its own. There is a reason its called a reboot and not called Devil May Cry 5
I remember saying to myself "The movies are horrible but the games are good at least". Now that statement is so wrong. They both suck.
Hey man, the first RE movie was spectacular, but went downhill right after that. For the games on the other hand, they sucked this gen. The only good recent one was RE4, but not even close to as great as the past installments.
"Release date(s) January 11, 2005" ...Thats recent?
Yeah okay, but Milla Jovovich though. . .
this is where i agree unlike with dmc which still could have been saved they have wrecked re >.> i didn't even finish 6 it was such a mess I don't know who they were even trying to appeal to when you bring out a product you bring it for a specific audience but i can't tell what audience they wanted to appeal to it was such utter garbage . . . . the problem with dev's is they want to try and get that cod money and they neglect there whole original fan base to try and get a fan base that isn't what they originally catered to -.- keep counting on these cellphone/casual gamer as an income and your going to be in for a rude awakening
I say at least conclude the damn story before you reboot it. You failed to do that for Devil May Cry fans, at least throw the fans of your number one franchise that one bone.
No thanks Crapcom, RE infected. Too late.
ahh now we're talking.
Give it to Platinum games. Let Shinji right the course.
Shinji Mikami works at his own company now, Tango Gameworks.
I see. Oh well.
Platinum games you say? Hell no! Keep it away from them
^ lol Kojima working on a Resident Evil game
would kick ass
They don't need to reboot it, but they do need to make a Resident Evil that includes our beloved characters and give us a proper survival horror again.
I think Resident Evil needs proper closure so people wouldn't have expectations for a new installment and prevent controversy. Create a new survival horror IP that's consistent, without lies in PR, and actually aiming to raise horror to new plateau instead of what sells. If Capcom does this I will be the first in line for it.
Guys dont worry shinji is making a survival horror game right now called zwei it'll blow re out the water
More like a boot up Resi fans arse if you know what i mean.
Lol Capcom if you're thinking of f*cking up the originals too you might as well stay away from them.
Resident Evil has always been and always must be a H O R R O R title. HORROR Capcom, HORROR, not action, HORROR, GORE AND FEAR. HORROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRR!!!! !!!!!
I want Dead Space 1 gameplay in the Resi Mansion. Remake RE1 again with prerendered visuals again. They could make the damn thing look real now!!!! (Sorry, that has been a dream of mine for about17 years now)
I'm sorry to say this as a huge RE fan from ps1 and ps2 days but I think RE has run its course and its time for its fans to move on and look for a new IP to put there love into! Developers should be looking to create that new IP for these fans to fall in love with! I think the main story was finished after Code V so everything after that was dragging it out to make money. I did enjoy RE4 but it did not really add much more to the overall story started in RE1.
Oh no! The horror! Hehehe. . .get it? You know cos Resident evil is . . .aah forget it.
They rebooted it with RE4. Why would they want to reboot it again (aside from RE6 flopping)? Just go back to the horror elements that the earlier games had.
Capcom did well with letting Ninja Theory reboot DmC. (Here comes the flames) Anyways, I'd love to see a reboot of the game, slowed down and no fast action, streamlined pace, and it starred Barry Burton. But he comes in contact with Jill and Chris along the way. Or do a super prequel that has Wesker kidnapping his family.
A reboot is definitely in order. The current storyline and game was just way too out of control and a far cry from the original masterpiece. It needs to be pulled back in and focus more on tension and survival.
Why not let platinum games try their hands at rebooting the embattled franchise? I mean after all Most of the people at platinum is ex Capcom who helped birthed the series in the first place. If anyone knows survival horror it's them. I return to raccoon city with those lovable slow moving Infestations on two feet would be a sight for sore eyes. Especially on ps4!
Instead of a reboot i think many would prefer a remake version of re2 and re3, re:remake was really good and remaking part 2 and 3 would give the resident evil another chance for an appeal to the audiences both old and new plus their previous RE games like 2 and 3 has a huge fan base that many fans would support.
All We need is RESIDENT EVIL 6-2
why not try make NEW survival horror IP, shocking capcom i know
Thing is with survival horror games of latley, their is too much action, they need to slow the pace to were people can soak up the scary music and feel the fear factor builnding then ........ BANG! hit them with dogs jumping through the window.( Resident Evil 1 ) I think when they made the change to the prosprctive view in RE4, it made it a run and gun game, so the things that were meant to be scary, was not being soaked up becuse it was being gunned down CoD style. Not totally bad games. Capcom needs to give Resident Evil its identity back.... Survival Horror.
It needs to die it's been around for a long time just like final fantasy kill it and bring something new with a new name.
So in other words Capcom are gonna again outsource it to another developer like they did with DMC. They figured that their internal studios are incapable of doing the game justice so lets give the franchise to someone else to mess around with. That is what Capcom is basically trying to say right?
Gamecube upgrade of the first and also RE Zero on Next gen would be great! Nervous of Capcom rebooting any early games seeing they havn't had the best lately and more negative press with fans. Earlier RE games are so good, don't want them screwed up.
