EA set to reveal next-gen FIFA and Battlefield

Edge:Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has stated that next-gen editions of FIFA and Battlefield are in development, and it’ll discuss the titles further in May. (Next-Gen, PC, PS4, Wii U, Xbox One)

blue_flowers  +   757d ago
“We’re also investing in Gen 4 console technologies and content,” said Riccitiello, as part of today’s financial results. “We’ve signalled that we’re working on the next editions of our two biggest franchises in Battlefield and FIFA. And, we look forward to discussing these programs and many others with you when we provide our FY14 guidance in May.”- EA's John Riccitiello

well thats extremely telling about the next generation launch windows for either Microsoft, Sony or both if your able to use common sense. FIFA 12 launched on September 27, 2011, and FIFA 13 launched on September 25, 2012. also Battlefield 3 launched October 25, 2011. FIFA is an annual title and Battlefield has become a bi-annual title similar to the Call of Duty franchise depending on the game and developer.

assuming EA wouldn't push back or halt the release of an annual title like FIFA you have to assume then that at least one next generation console will be out a few weeks before or a few weeks after late September of 2013. if that wouldn't be the case, then why would EA talk about a next generation version of an annual title so early? you can then only conclude that Battlefield 4 will be out presumably sometime in late October of 2013. not only does this confirm by association a next generation console being out sometime between August-October 2013, but that also means one or both console manufacturer will have to at least announce their new console very very soon to start marketing.

this also bring up a good point, if the new FIFA and Battlefield will be talked about in May 2013, then if this is not yet an official announcement for those two games by EA's Riccitiello. then there must be an official announcing of those titles by EA or some other gaming related source prior to May 2013. this leaves one option, these two titles will be at least announced for next generation systems. most likely by a console manufacturer either by press briefing or press event. So whether its Sony or Microsoft, at least one of these companies is unveiling or announcing their console and announcing these two titles for the next generation platform.

Yup,MS and Sony are getting ready to speak on their new consoles..
blue_flowers  +   757d ago
exactly, im guessing sometime in February, idk isnt Sony's Destination thing in February? but it would be odd Microsoft wouldn't also do it next month if they suspected Sony of an imminent announcement or vise versa. i guess we'll have to see..

I bet that bald, fat attention seeker that is M$ CEO Steve Ballmer...is gonna let slip that M$ are working on next gen console soon. He let slip Windows 8 before it was official shown or announced. Its only natural that he gets his attention he craves soon.

yes fifa is an annual product and bf every other yr... but they may go ahead and release fifa 14 in september and bf4 in october for current gen consoles and having the next gen fifa14 and BF4 as lunch titles for next gen consoles..

Thats prob whats going to happen. they wouldnt delay current gen. im guessing

That's the first thought that came to my mind as well. If EA is set to reveal the titles come May then we are going to see some mighty big announcements in June during E3.

Oh boy! Last E3 was very disappointing (to me) but this E3 will probably make up for it.
DeadlyFire  +   756d ago
Well Sony Vice President has stated May as well I believe.

Its not uncommon for EA to side with Sony and Activision to side with Microsoft. So PS4 timed exclusive early BF4 beta? Maybe.

"We’re also investing in Gen 4 console technologies and content, We’ve signalled that we’re working on the >NEXT EDITIONS< of our two biggest franchises in Battlefield and FIFA"

pretty much confirms the next battlefield game will be next gen =]]]]

Been calling it for a long time now. What is laughable is that anyone can downvote this when it is so blatantly obvious. They would not speak about their games like this if this was not the case.

@Blue_Flowers: I think during odd years (someone correct me if I'm wrong), MS holds this conference/hands-on called "X".

Last year they had a "Spring Showcase" on February 29th (or somewhere in the vicinity) and it was HEAVILY embargoed till March 5th (or somewhere in that vicinity).

Either way, whether they call it X13 or the Spring Showcase 2013, I truly believe both Sony and MS are going to reveal their next-gen offerings in February to start the official hype and then drive that train straight into full-blown E3 madness come June.

ok yeah thats it, thanks man. i realize both Sony and Microsoft have big titles and exclusives still coming out on their current platforms. but i still think, like you, that February is the month of a next generation reveal.

64 player Battlefield on consoles - MY BODY IS READY
angelsx  +   757d ago
Why not 128 players?
Lockon  +   757d ago
PC doesn't even have 128 players with out some sort of mod.
profgerbik  +   756d ago
LockOn hasn't played too many PC games hell PC had this many players in some games literally years and years ago.

Planet Side 2 being one of the newer ones, 650 players per faction and per map. Even the old Planet Side had more than 128 players.

Ah 64 players on consoles would be amazing. If we can get 128, then we're in for a real treat!
UnholyLight  +   756d ago
They should make a playlist like Halo. Have a 64 person game type, and a 128 person game type. That would be really cool. Give us some choice!!!
superterabyte  +   756d ago
Believe me Killzone 2 had 32 player matches and you could really feel how much better it was and how the game is so different. Looking forward to high player count being the norm
Lockon  +   756d ago

I'm talking about BF3. Don't try and use other PC games just to make a statement.
Gamer1982  +   756d ago
Proof there coming this year then? As development cycles for these games is less than 1 year.
UnholyLight  +   756d ago
Pretty srue they've already been working on Battlefield 4 for a while now?

Hmm I wonder if NHL14 will be next gen? EA just pushed back BF4 til 2014 so we won't be seeing that this year.
Tzuno  +   756d ago
It's all hype, next gen it will not be a huge leap like ps2-ps3 leap or xbox-xbox360 graphical leap.

The worst part is that the new hardware will be similar to the current gen in a sense that games can easily be ported so the devs won't have to rebuild their games from scratch.

In other words, it wouldn't shock me if next-gen madden and CoD will be no more than a graphics update from current gen.
BanBrother  +   756d ago

I agree. But you have to factor in that if they target 60FPS and 1080p (minumum), it will be beatiful, but not as big a leap. It will certainly mean games will play better, and then CoD loses its 60FPS selling point, when it has become standard.

Of course, some devs will maybe do 720p, 30FPS to push graphical capabilities to the max. I'd assume quite a few will be doing 30FPS, but maybe target in-between 720p-1080p.
mochachino  +   756d ago
With next-gen consoles you'll see a huge difference between BF and COD.

Graphically, BF on current gen is obviously too much but when huge open maps and vehicles are running smoothly, COD may look like a last-gen game with more polish.

Notice how he says Gen 4 not Gen 8
So he's not counting from the magnavox odyseey, he's counting from the first playstation, interesting!
